Warm Season Grass for filter strips

You will have some input on what you end up doing as it's your ground. I would not let them force fescue on you. That would be worse than not doing a project at all. Don't skimp on the forb elements. Very often the brood-rearing component of the habitat necessary to support a quail population is the limiting factor. The grass will be the most agressive and will take care of itself. Getting the forbs established up front will be important. All too soon you'll be wanting to set back the grass component. Plums are hard to beat. They are just thorny enough to disuade predators from hot pursuit and they spread and thicken over time. The jelly they produce is a great by-product too!

Prairie Drifter,
This is changing the subject but I have question regarding food plots. I started out with a milo proso millet mix that worked great. But in a couple of years it became less productive. My theory is that it was because an imbalance in the fungal - bacterial ratio. So I started rotating to corn to try to change that ratio, but I am not thrilled with that. Do you have a suggestion for a different food plot recipe instead. I am wondering about soybeans and barley.
