Treasure Your Friends and Days in the Field

As the title says "Treasure Your Friends and Days in the Field". Last September I was invited to come hunting in Montana with a good friend I've know for about 8 years through my participation in NSTRA field trials. Great guy from the Sidney area and always a joy to be around. We hiked hard for a few days and shot a few Sharpies and Huns. I found out in April after I got back from Arizona that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer over the winter. Mike passed away this past Saturday at age 56. Still hard to believe.

Sorry for the loss of your friend, cancer is a ruthless disease and seems to be impossible to predict. It seems more and more common these days both in humans and in our dogs. Growing up in a family of Rough Collie breeders, we never heard of a dog with cancer, now I hear about it all the time. My father almost lost a battle to colo-rectal cancer in 2012, luckily he pulled through it and is still showing me up in the fields. I like to think that your friend is somewhere in a grass field full of roosters and an endless supply of shells.

Yes Zeb treasure your friends. Conservation lost a very good man, John Knebel from Eden South Dakota was killed in a baler accident on Wednesday. I am sorry for friend to go so young, we both have bad news.
