Toyota Tundra

This is a somewhat old post I know but I did have a Tundra once. It was an 07. Worse truck I've ever owned. It was in the shop so much I used up a ton of vacation hours due to having to get it repaired for one thing or another.

It was horrible on gas. I did not like the rear end in it. The anti slip rear end or whatever they call it is absolutely worthless. If not 4wd it would have gotten stuck on a banana peel. One tire would spin then stop and the other would kick in until it spun and then the tire not spinning would get power and spin again. I could turn that feature off which then made it a one wheel drive truck. So either way it was bad.

Wife has a four runner and its a great vehicle! She loves it! But, she never goes off the pavement with it. It's not had one lick of problems with over 125K on it.

Three women on my wifes side of the family are driving Tundras . I suspect more of the market with the toyotas than the big three.

Worst mileage of a 1/2 ton, junk rear end, to big, and they are terribly ugly in my opinion. Its bad when I think a truck is uglier than a dodge. Tacomas and the 1st gen Tundras are nice trucks, I'm just not sure what they were going for with the new ones.

I've got a 2008 Tundra with 100,000 miles--had a water pump go out at 70,000 but that was all that went wrong--bought it to tow a 28 ft camper and it does so very well but gets poor gas mileage when towing and only so so when not towing. Fit and finish are holding up well--overall I like it and it works for what I got it for.

I also have an 02 Tahoma with 195,000 miles and have had NO trouble with it and off road it is as good as it gets (has the TDR off road package--with locker rear end). Have had 2 other Toyota trucks and both were great trucks. I'm not sure what I would replace the Tundra with if I needed to. I've had great luck with the trucks I've had but have to admit the Tundra is not the best one of the lot. The last dodge I had really sucked and a Ford 150 was only so so but that was a lot of years ago.

Hope this helps

105000 miles and knock on wood it has never been in the shop. Father has one with 45,000 and has never been in the shop. 2008 and 2012.

No Tundra, but I drive a 4x4 Tacoma . . . best truck I've ever owned (and I've owned plenty over the years). Plenty of zip, no issues, & 20-22 mpg all day long.

What about cab room? I'm 6'2". Does it feel claustrophobic on long drives? Any particular years to look for in used Tacomas?

Thanks didn't mean to hijack the thread.

I'm 6'3, 240-250 (depending on season, lol.). I fit just fine with plenty of leg room. Mine is an '08 & I bought it used. Access cab & 6' bed. Does everything I need it to do.

Thanks Koja! That was my major concern; if I can't shift around on long drives I'm miserable. The Tacomas are starting to look more and more appealing as I don't see gas prices going anywhere but up.

I 6'4" and 300 +/- Have 2012 Tundra after a 2007 Tundra. Gas mileage is fair could be better and I don't like the engine always breaking with no coasting allowed. That seems stupid to me but otherwise I really like it. My dealer offered a 200,000 mile warrantee on all of drive train and free oil changes and washing for life. Hard to pass up that. Has mucho power 5.7 liter engine. Tows well but gas mileage could be better. I'm happy with it.

I don't even have the driver's seat fully back either, Hobie. At 65, this is the last truck I'll likely ever buy.

I sure hope not. My GMC has 212k miles and has never been in a shop save for 1 tranny rebuild around 180k. Doesn't burn a drop of oil between changes either and I let it go to 6 or 7k between changes and that high mileage v8 still gets 20-21mpg hi way.

I test drove a 4cyl 5sp 4x4 tacoma and a 6cyl 6sp trd and was thoroughly impressed by both but the tundra was just ok imo. The one thing on the trd that I didn't like was that the rear locker can only be selected in 4lo. I can count the times I've used lo range in my truck on one hand (and I do a lot of off roading) but the rear locker is used on EVERY off road excursion and I rarely use 4wd because of it.

Just Google Toyota Trucks and rotting frames!

Yeah...right after you read that, read what toyota did to fix the issue. Top notch company that builds quality products, in the USA (trucks at least) and stands behind their products.
