Thinking about a new gun, suggestions?

I have a franchi affinity just for these reasons. Work great Price is good

I have a friend with the affinity and its never failed him. Great guns for a good price.

I just ordered a new browning a5 hunter in 20.. always shot an old one. Need the ability to change chokes

Steal some $, sell your body, buy used, or some of each….i can’t speak highly enough of the Benelli ultralight…mine is a 12 gauge…6 lbs…3 shell capacity…I have lots of guns, this would be my go-to if my life depended on hitting the target. The most important thing is the fit, and you can use shims to create the proper fit with this gun. Lots of good guns out there, what feels good and fits you is key. If you’re near Duluth you’re welcome to borrow mine and shoot clays.

One I forgot to mention that is sweet but very tough to find is a Franchi 620 variopress. Had mine for 20 years and will use it for 20 more if Im able. It’s a very light 20 gauge. There was one in GB a few months ago Im kinda kicking myself for not grabbing.

I wouldn't go super light if you want to use it with magnum shells.

The recoil is pretty awful. I refuse to use anything bigger than a 2 3/4 inch shell with my benelli.

Look for a good condition Remington 1100 lt weight 20 gauge. They are a joy to carry and I use it almost exclusively in SD on pheasants.

My advice is always the same, go to the gun store and pull up as many shotguns as you can and remove the ones that don't fit quite right. Pull up with your eyes closed and then open them. Some guns pull up right on the money and others have the barrel up to high, some too low, etc. This method is how I landed on Franchi Affinity.

Yup. Short search is over. I chose a Franchi affinity 3 20 gauge in black synthetic. Was down between that and the beretta a300 and settled on the affinity. Felt good and liked where the safety is at more.

I have both a Benelli new model Montefeltro 12 and a new model M2 20. Both great guns. If I were wanting a gun to shoot both upland and waterfowl I would go with an M2 in Gore Optifade Timber 12 gauge. I love mine and it is a fine looking gun.

All of the previous posts mention good guns. Most north, some well north, of your $1000. If that's the range you want to stay in I would look at a Winchester SX4. I've shot them on multiple occasions and they shoot well. I own a Maxus II which shares the same gas system and have had zero issues with it shooting everything from trap/dove loads on up to turkey loads.

I have a Maxus II wicked wing. Soft shooting but I much prefer the Benellis.
