I was out in the central part of the state yesterday trying to spray some cheat grass and western wheat grass and I saw two pheasants. One ran across the road in front of me, and one was in one of the fields i was spraying. Just warms my heart...

Yeah, we're starting to really see birds now in the SC part of the state. My Bio buddy and another wildlife manager came to help me burn here on Tuesday and saw several dozen along the highway coming down. I flushed a covey of quail while working the burn as well. I helped another manager burn Thursday at Marion and saw roosters along 61 on the way up. Good to see. The turkey moved into our burned area within a day of the fire. Things are on a low simmer, the rolling boil should heat up soon. I hope it turns the tide.

I went and looked at some land for sale south of Coolidge. I saw quite a few birds, more than I thought I would. I saw a dozen hens with a rooster in the ditch along some Wiha near Garden City. I would say I saw a total of 10 to 12 roosters and 30 hens from Ness City to Coolidge. I drove back roads all the way across there. The wheat looks way better than last year, hopefully harvest won't be as early.

Heard Ness City had baseball size hail storm over weekend. South of town at Southfork Meat. Haven't heard how wide spread yet.

I came through Ness the morning after the hail. I never heard baseball size but there was some hail. It was in a small strip. My friend sw of town didn't get any where he lives, and another friend that lives se of town didn't get any.

I have talked to friends in Ness City, and there is a lot of roof damage in town. It doesn't sound like it went north or south of town much. Bazine didn't have much so it didn't go far east either. Thats twice in just a few years the roofs in Ness were destroyed. There were also lots of windows broken.

crowing

sitting in my turkey blind the other day i heard a lot of crowing especially since i was not in the best of pheasant country, love that crow and wing flap, hope they find some really good ladies to meet up with

cheers

I also heard a rooster crow yesterday in Jeff Co while crappie fishing with the boy. It was good to hear. I saw one last summer there too. I hope it is his son!

I saw four roosters dusting themselves over Easter weekend north of Marysville. That's four times as many as I saw all season. I hope they can have some sort of comeback this spring.
