As I stated in the other thread, less than 100 yards in a field in Iowa. Shooting time is 8 am done by about 8:15. Kinda boring the rest of the day. SD a few years ago. Couldn't get a rooster in range all day. Severely hen blocked till about 5 pm. Shot three roosters off an old dam in about ten minutes. Pretty damn good day.

I did it in Colorado once in about 15 minutes. I hadn't killed anything all day and it was about 1 pm when we pulled up to the field. Fifteen minutes later we had seen probably over 20 birds, i killed three and my dad killed two. It was the best hunting i think i ever saw for those few minutes. We could have kept following the dog, but we both had our limit, so we had to go. It was great.

Did it once. It WAS awesome!!!

A friend and I spread way out in weedy wheat stubble. He was near the edge with his dog, and I was quite a ways in with Daisy. I don't know how long it took, but it was a small field, only about 300 yards long maybe and 200 yards wide. My dog was amazing that day, and it was my best day of shooting ever. 4 shells, 4 roosters in about 200 yards. I just stopped in my tracks 100 yards short of the end of the field and held my dog there until my buddy came around the corner and started walking towards me. Then I let Daisy go and she pointed a couple more birds for him. And she retrieved them all as well.

I was walking on a cloud the rest of the trip. Yes, I was proud of myself and my good shooting, but I was far more proud of the work Daisy did. That was the day I decided she was a "finished" hunting dog, regardless of her level of training.

The few days when I shot "lights out", doesn't do much to balance out the YEARS I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

Carptom, that is hilarious! I know I've got some tee shirts that are at least 20 years old and still hanging on...

Not a limit but 2 years ago I got 3 roosters from 2 passes through a patch a 1/4 mile long and not 100 yards wide. Those were the last birds I shot as I got skunked last year

When I lived in Utah the limit was 2 roosters, I doubled up a couple of times with my o/u and had to break the news to the dog that we were done for the day.
Several times I shot a limit of roosters on the first walk, jumped in the truck and hunted chukars for the rest of the day!

I haven't been able to pull it off yet in Kansas.

I know one person who got his limit after never firing a shot. Stole my dam birds right out of the back of my truck while I was eating lunch.

Long time ago, had the day off for quail opener. Started at 6:30. Two big coveys were 50 yards from the truck. Both flew into some short grass. Cleaned my eight birds, drove 30 minutes to work by 8 am, and saved my day off for another day.

field limits

mostly in my life, to shoot a limit of birds out of one field has not happened very often and that's one stat. i failed to keep track of. two years ago in kansas i had the best year of my life, not in total kills but surely the most amount of birds in the shortest amount of time. my friend and me took just over 140 birds out of just 6 fields and most days were done by about noon. i would have to guess but i would think that about 8-9 times that year i limited out in one field. all on roosters

cheers
