The Snow

I truly forgot how much fun it was hunting in a fresh snow like the one which blanketed our area.

Even without the benefit of a dog, my father and I went out and about today. Unfortunately for him, he missed his opportunity for a rooster and I somehow managed to bag three. I can only imagine how much better it would have been with a dog, but it was still a load of fun nonetheless.

The birds were holding incredibly tight for the most part. I had to almost step on four different hens in one thick patch of CRP to get them to fly. There I really wish I would have had a dog.

Good luck to everyone going out this weekend.

Snow hunting is the best! Sounds like you had a great day. I'm hoping to get my snow hunting in tomorrow before it all melts this weekend.

how much snow did you guys get around Manhattan? I was out there the other day and drove home because of the weather coming in...they were saying snow then turning to ice...didnt want to deal with that.

Sorry, bud, but I never saw any ice. One guy that works for me lives N of Tuttle (by Randolph). He said he had 1" of snow, but didn't think there was any ice.

4" at my house, very wet underneath. No ice though. It was pleasant hunting yesterday, for sure. The dogs stopped periodically to have a good roll in it.

Junie apparently took a locust thorn between her pads. Showed no signs of distress yesterday, but was lame this morning. The vet gave her a week of antibiotics and hopefully she'll be good as new.

We woke up to an unexpected 4" of snow a couple years ago. Had one of the best days ever. Tightest holding pheasants I've seen.
