Superstitious?

After reading the thread about old school and new school gear, i was just wondering who has "lucky" gear or other superstitions?

For instance, I have a lucky stocking hat. I hate hunting without it. I only wear it while hunting so I don't waste its good luck.

Well let's see . . . I have a preferred Upland hat, a preferred Salmon hat, and a no-doubt-about-it lucky Spring Bass fishing sweatshirt (although it resembles a collection of holes & tears somehow still connected by scraps of fabric, but it's been on 20+ years of float tube adventures). I also put-on my right sock & right boot/shoe first (carry-over from my sporting career in my youth). Superstitious? No way . . .

Ihave an old jones style hat that I wear for rabbit, squirrel and phez hunting. It's the only hat that I wear while I'm for these and the hat is at lest 28 yrs. old.

If I don't take each and every gun I own out in the field hunting throughout the year. They will somehow feel neglected. I must have a history/memory that I can tell a story to my friends and family that follows each of the guns. A gun with no history other then standing in the gun safe/cabinet..really has no value IMO, no matter what it's cash value is.

When I shot Registered Trap, I would always turn the shell so that the 12 on the case head was straight up in the chamber.

I know a fella who finds it best to have equal numbers of shells in each pocket for balance....that could be termed supertituous.

i will have to try that when trap league starts. I am getting bumped up a class and I need all the extra help I can get.

I have a pair of leather gloves that are so full of holes they are pretty much useless, expect for the fact that if I don't wear them I will not see any birds.

This last season I left them on the roof of the truck when leaving the field, thank goodness they were still in the middle of the road when I went back to find them.

Really doesn't have anything to do with hunting although I guess it could depending on how you look at it. But, I won't cross a black cats path. I'll turn around and go back first.

I have a weird one: I say a little thank-you each time I take a bird. I started doing it as a kid and just kind of stuck with it. Hasn't helped me get more birds that I am aware of but it reminds me to keep humble about the ones I do and maybe The Giant Ditch Chicken in the Sky will keep sending a few my way. :)

I have a lucky whistle :) But during the National Open this year I did a good deed to someone every day before Odie ran. Each run got better and better. Until he got done and recieved a CM. Any thing from pumping old ladys gas to tipping the old gal at the drive through at McDonalds. She at McD's was the hardest. It was the 5th serries and I could not find anything to do, so I said hell with it I'll tip that nice old lady at the drive through. She refused:eek:. I took no answer but OK, I told her she could put it in a grand kids sock or something. This was at Xmas time aproaching so that nailed it. Man she was tough LOL. But it worked in the end. CARMA man, it works.:D

That Mcd's drive through is a good one. I like that.

I swear it's 100% true. I was so afraid that she would not take it, and it being the 5th series. I was desperate I tell ya.:D She even said she turned down others trying to tip her. LOL, But she caved and Odie prevailed.LOL

I think in general pheasant hunters are unique in the fact we are more in tune with are sixth sense and also pay more attention to the smallest of details. Whether it be keeping an equal amount of shells in each pocket for stabilization or not washing a vest caked in 12 yrs of cock blood in fear of washing out the "good luck."

I kind of have this thing about wearing orange when I'm bird hunting; if I don't I feel like one of my buddies might shoot me;)

Not really hunting related but I will not step into a doorway with my left foot. Always lead with the right Even switch feet if the steps are odd numbered...don't know so don't ask - might have been dropped on my head for all I know.
