Stoeger Uplander

Was wondering if any one has experience with a Stoeger Uplander SxS. I'm looking at getting a 28 Gauge.

Just shot a buddies for the first time last weekend. They are what they are. An affordable and I suspect fairly durable gun that won't win any awards for beauty but looks a hell of a lot cooler in the field than a Camo Mossberg pump for around the same price.

Not the Uplander, but I did just pick up the STF 3000, which is a special model sold exclusively through Dick's Sporting Goods. They have it on sale right now for $350.

I'm actually pretty surprised at the quality, it's a nice looking gun. Ejectors, extended chokes. Shot it for the first time this last weekend and liked it.

For the price, I don't have to worry about it getting banged up in the field which is nice. It's not a 10k rounds-per-year gun, but it works for me.

For the price, the Uplander would be worth a try.

I have the Uplander in 12 a gauge model, there are some brands of shells it will not fire which is not a desirable trait in a gun.

Do you remember the shell brand , type, or cause?

It will fire Winchester and Federal, it will not fire Remington. You can see the impression (dent) left in the shell by the fireing pin, but it appears to not be strong enough to fire certain brands of shells.

Thanks for the info. I think I will gamble on getting the 28 Gauge. I reload all my ammo so I will adjust as need be.

I have owned a Uplander 12 ga. for 2 seasons now. Works fine, fires any brand of shell I put in it. My son has owned one for over 10 years. It works fine also.

I suspect the ammunition, not the gun! There has been a long running quality control issue with Remington, I'm sorry to say. I have known many guns to dislike Remington ammo of recent manufacture. I personally have had bad 12 gauge shotshells, bad 20 gauge shotshells, and almost unbelievably, bad .22 rimfire rounds. Not many but here and there. Always a severely dented primer with no ignition, or a rim with a nice crease. In all cases even with attempted refire, no successful ignition. That said, the reviews here of the gun coincide exactly with my impressions of all the South American Stoegers I've handled. I would say utilitarian, like a hammer, and I wouldn't hesitate to use one like that. Stock design designed to impart as much recoil as possible to the cheek of the properly aligned shooter. 20's punch back like 12's and 12's like 10's. Fit, finish, style, grace, all things a double should strive to be, they aren't. But they mostly work and they are cheap.
