  • My granddad and C.A. Johnson were trial buddies in the 50's and 60's. Ended up C.A. and I were always friends and then neighbors. The first litter of setters I raised were out of a little female who was a littermate to Grouse Ridge John. C.A. was the original breeder and trainer of John then sold the dog to Dr. Flanagan who changed the dogs name from Johnson's Skyhigh Duke. I would imagine who you raise setters you can trace the breeding back to the dogs that my granddad and CA breed, and a few that I bred. C.A. and I then bred a grand daughter of John with imported semen to produce some Lewellens into his line. I felt like the first litter I whelped were the best gun dogs ever. When Scott Miller had his kennel in Missouri back in the late 80's I took one of my half lewellen setters over to him for his 60 day refresher program and he told me that she was the best bird dog in the kennel over all of the FC's he had in for training and the ones he owned himself.
Next time your down in linn county shot me a pm. Have training birds and always up to working dogs. I to have a 11 month brittany. And a couple short hairs.
