Still at it.

Is that one going to the taxidermist or was it cleaned and ate with the others? Very unique bird for sure, nice!

Sounds like an event you knew you should avoid. Those fellas had a good time without trained dogs as many of us do. There is no requirement or need to have a dog steady to this or that or retrieve to hand or foot, to enjoy hunting or help harvest birds. You are out there for more/less seeing how well you trained your dog, these guys are hunting and learning to hunt, not dog trainers as most people are. Few of us require as much from our campanions or have the time or desire to train to the extend you deem acceptable. Just no need to run-down our untrained canine companions, which many cases fill our game pouches as well or better than the trained counter parts.
I don't do any training. The yellow lab doesn't need to be taught anything. Top notch bird dogs right out of the box.

Goose, I’m finally getting it! You are a “Swami” of sorts as it relates to dogs, farmers, etc…a transference of Karma, or enlightenment, occurs…maybe it’s the PBR? Do you give that to the dog? I have to
get me some of that!🍺

All 3 1 pointing a Hotspot from a wild flush, one backing that , and Delio saying they ain't here now.

I hunt lots of cover like this late in the season. There are some corn strips left around this piece. Is about 35 acres in size but the middle has a spring so you can't really hunt the willows all the way thru most winters. The north edge of this has a corn or bean field coming up to the edge which drops down quite rapidly about 10 feet. A buddy was going to cut across and get out front , but he got stuck in a big drift and had to roll and swim out. He cussed me for a couple hours.

Yes sir, especially with (small) steel shot.
Actually, we rarely shoot steel.Usually #4 lead 1 1/4 ,,oz. It's that big automatic 12 guage that looses them.

If my memory is correct you had mentioned in the past that you dislike steel and that it sucks. So I assumed you were wounding (losing) birds because of steel.
Good to know you have it figured out, "it's that big automatic 12 gauge". I use a 20 gauge most of the time for upland. Maybe that's why I don't lose many?

Great pic weimer, thanks for posting. Love the gray ghost in the field.
