State rights for Nebraska!

I'm sure the fishing is great over there, lord knows there's enough lakes to choose from but just for example Ca smallmouth record out weighs Mn largemouth record by almost a pound and our bluegill has over a pound on yours. We wont even get into saltwater fishing since that wouldnt be fair.;) I'm glad word of catch and release finally made it back that way. :D The smaller ones are better eating anyways and the bigens are the good breeders.

We'll get Ne on the map one way or another.

honestly i have never herd or seen any tv fishing shows or pro fisherman pump CA for fishing??? i mean you guys have warm weather all year ur supposed to have bigger fish then us up north??? large mouth bass grow to 20 lbs in FL not up in MN many people travel to & dream of fishing MN lakes for walleye muskie ETC. never herd many say cant wait to head to CA to go fishing???

im sure you guys have world class fishing but so does MN google fishing MN its world class im sure same as CA size isnt everything quail hound LOL

Really? Ca is famous for its fishing. You're right though, size isn't everything but teaching your nephews how to catch slabs is.

They gotta start somewhere right? You don't expect me to give up my honey holes that produce consistent 15-18in slabs do you?;)

We were just having a little friendly disagreement pineridge. My only hobbies are hunting, fishing and watching baseball. I went fishing this morning, I'm watching a game right now and I'm going dove hunting tomorrow morn.

Exactly... Some turn any reply to an argument. Why I bowed out, and also deleted one that went to far, breaking several rules. Enough already. Good God. Talk about Nebraska, or one of it's only threads will get locked. LOL. OFF topic.

I grew up in Nebraska in the late 70's and 80's.....
My father and I hunted all over the state and never gave much thought to traveling out of state as the bird numbers were plentiful and most farmers would allow access....

Lived in Omaha and I fondly remember each opening day.....driving west on I-80'in the early morning darkness....the steady stream of trucks and SUV's all heading west towards their favorite hunting spots. KFAB on the radio and the Big Report and local farm reports as well.....riding in the back of our Suburban along with the other bird dogs.....as I was too young to carry a gun in those early days. I lived for those days and listening to the old timers and their grand stories. The smell of coffee and hot chocolate....the excitement always kicked up a notch once we left the highway and hit the gravel / dirt section roads:)

Wow! you just described my feelings to a T! I grew up near Bennington, and we always headed up by Platte Center (near Columbus) for opening day. We left on Friday night, but what you just described above brings back so many good memories! Thanks

Hunting, Fishing, and baseball is exactly how I respond when asked what my hobbies are or what defines me. Now that you've taught that nephew how to catch slabs, are you gonna teach him how to play baseball?

My suggestion, coach a team of young men if you can. You get the opportunity to dispell the myths some teachers tend to perpetuate in school (like hunting is evil since we can buy food in a store, guns are dangerous, Obama's good, etc.). I'm raising the next generation of freedom-loving patriots by way of having them play 40 games/year and spend about 80 afternoons/evenings with them at practices....they all know when to catch different species of fish, when hunting season starts, what the constitution is, and since the school didn't teach 'em the Pledge of Allegiance, we took care of that during our stretches:thumbsup: Ahh yes, indoctrinating America's youth, one baseball practice at a time:D In all seriousness though, I'm really looking forward to getting each one of these kids hooked on the outdoors as they grow.

That is awesome KB.:10sign: I would love coach my nephews but unfortunately they live 45mins away. I play catch with them, catch for them and pitch some bp for them when I can but that's about it. My life long short stop (I played 2nd) has twins that are about to start playing ball and I think he and I are going to coach. Should be fun.

Coaching kids can and should be one of the most rewarding undertakings of your life! It adds value to my life in ways I cannot describe in short enough order to post here. The icing on the cake will be when I get to see one of these boys play at the HS, college, and hopefully the professional level someday (I tell 'em we practice so hard so that when I'm an old man, they can help my Royals win:D). Anyway, continue helping develop the nephew and by all means, get involved with your SS's team.....you won't regret it.

Thanks! I'am a newbee to the forum but definitely not to pheasant hunting! Hope maybe I can learn from this forum and maybe interject some wisdom. Went up north by Pender to do a little scouting yesterday and found out pretty quick that there's not much to scout! LOL! My traditional honey holes are still there now if we just had a good hatch last spring then just maybe I'll be able to scratch a few ditch chickens up there. I did hear some roosters cackling in the distance. There just cant be a market for all this corn everywhere you look corn, corn and more corn! Oh yea and beans....LOL!:D

come on up to MN i seen a fellow corn husker in the parking lot of our hotel on the MN pheasant opener it has to be better here in MN then down there in the land of corn???

welcome to the site bullshirt hope you bag many NE roosters this season i plan on heading down ur way for pheasant & quail in NOV we dont have many of them bob whites up here same with prairie grouse witch i love to hunt!!! turkey is my main passion thow!!! thats what brang me to NE 6-8 times love the state

Kind of funny a guy from Minn. throwing smack around about pheasant hunting to us hunters from Nebraska! Show's how far we have dropped when it comes to pheasant numbers here, really sad actually, It used to be Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas, then South Dakota. S.D. farmers and ranchers have really done a fine job on their pheasant habitat in alot of cases, thus their superiour bird numbers. I know there are still pockets of awesome pheasant hunting in each of those states, heck, I have some here in the panhandle, but as a whole, things look bleek. The storm a couple of weeks ago hammered the birds we had, not to mention tearing the hearts and souls out of many a cattle rancher on the high plains. Ofcourse my prayers are with all of those effected by that horrific blizzard. The pheasant population in Nebraska has fluctuated drastically in the past, I have photo's of my Greatgrandpa and his brothers with pickup loads of birds in the 30's and 40's. But in the 70's and early 80's things were bad. Then things changed again and the 90's numbers were fantastic. Now here we sit, indire need of some sort of management plan to bring back bird numbers. Like everything else in our world, most things are driven by the all mighty dollar, good or bad. Pheasant numbers are subject to the same. Maybe with enough dollars we hunters can bring back bird numbers so our childrens children will still have the pleasure of those crisp, frosty fall mornings on the plains waiting for the cackle of the mornings first rooster.

man pineridge uplander you have got to the rudest guy on the forum you take offense to every damn thing a non nebraska resident says on these forums especially if its on a NE thread??? for what??? this forum is for friendly guys trying to help one another & share info not routinely talk S*** or ignore guys when they welcome you to the forum grow up man loose the big ass chip on ur shoulder!!!

yes there is some B/S that goes on from time to time on this forum but in no way shape or form was i throwing smack around about pheasant hunting to NE residents??? bullshirt said NE has no pheasants head to SD or MN all i said was i seen a fellow corn husker up in MN & things have got to be better here in MN then NE??? & come on up... harvest numbers show that i was not talking smack...

you didnt even know or care to know that MN harvested more pheasants then NE did last season??? maybe thats why the NE resident was up in western MN pheasant hunting??? or maybe it was or expansive public land system in western MN wear pheasants live & will live because of the amount of public lands managed for wildlife in that region???

any way i love the state of nebraska thats why i read & comment on the NE threads i plan to hunt pheasants & quail there this fall & turkey in the spring if i can make the trips down there...

just calm down pineridge uplander im not trying to start shit with you every time i post something on a NE thread... you were quit rude even when i sent you a PM to welcome you to the forum & check on the wild turkey population in ur area maybe its just ur way but come on man lighten up a little bit it gets old in a hurry... u have bashed guys for posting to much as well i just dont get why you even want to be apart of the or a forum if all us bug you so much???

Given the fact that pheasant numbers are pretty much down all over, what are some of you guys and gals goals for this up coming season. Personally if I can put ten roosters in the freezer I'll be a happy camper. I know they are not going to come easy but I have been trying to get myself and my GSP in shape for some serious walking. I probably will only hunt Nebraska in the northeast and maybe take a trip down west of McCook. They tell me that there is some pretty good looking habitat down that way. Who knows?

what?

You got all that from my post? The only thing I said what I thought it was funny a guy from minn. throwing smack..? Most of my post was about how dismal bird hunting in Nebraska has become. What was rude?
