(Primghar)-- A Maurice man accused of firing a shotgun toward a school bus and sheriff's deputy's residence faces multiple charges following an incident Wednesday afternoon in O'Brien county.

The Sheriff's Office says it received a report from an off-duty deputy who was waiting for his son to get home on the school bus. The off-duty deputy reported a Chevrolet truck was parked on a gravel road near his residence and that a man had gotten out of it with a shotgun and started walking toward the deputy's residence. The man then walked into a grassy area and fired a shot. He then fired additional shots toward some flying pheasants. The deputy reported that some of the shots were fired toward the school bus and his residence.

An on-duty deputy then arrived on the scene. Upon investigating the suspect, Christopher Alan Powell, was charged with dominion or control of a firearm by a felon, possession of a controlled substance...methamphetamine...3rd or subsequent offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while barred, driving while suspended, reckless use of a firearm, hunters-orange apparel violation and prohibited hunting near a building or feedlot.

Powell made an initial appearance today (Thursday) in O'Brien County District. He's being held on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.

Doesn't mention if he hit the bird, going to guess he's a poor shot on top of all his other issues.

Someone on here should at least go bail out his dog! Retrieving a bird for a bad owner shouldn't be an offense...

Sad problem across all of rural USA. Everyone likes to think of the inner city drug problems, but meth and prescription drug opiods are a major problem across rural counties coast to coast.
