I live and hunt here in Nebraska, and from the state and game and fish to the nrd I didn't see any improvment like they told everyone. Ans truthfully they said they have been building more habitat I actually saw less habitat. The weird thing is we had 8 guys hunting this weekend and 5 dogs. Saw and shoot 2 roosters and 1 quail out of a covey of 3. Hunting in central Neb. and saw more wood ducks and ducks then any upland bird. I just have this feeling inside me pheasant hunting won't be around in 10 years.

I do not know what the state of Nebraska is doing, but remember that Nebraska is the bullseye for this drought. Many extremely hot days and little rain.

Concur with this post. Its been a bad year as for as rain goes, habitat is suffering and so is the bird population. Mother nature is in controll of the bird pop, and bad years will happen. Its all cyclical. The birds may need to be not hunted for a year or two in your area. Means you do not hunt them for a year or two so they, can reproduce, to repopulate your area. Conservation.

We all, as hunters need to be Responsible for are actions. Taking one quail out of three on a flush Inho Is not beeing a responsible hunter. The other two have no chance of making it thought the Winter, unless they get luck and hook up with another covey.

Just saying, and thats my opinion.

Of course pheasant will be around in 10 years...Nebraska and beyond.
Degree at any moment is the only question as they cycle thru their existence.
The pheasant's benefit is in it's ease of renewal as the cover it favors rises and falls to the favors of others.
There always will be an element of extirpation tho...always has been, with all birds classified as game.

Jmac is correct, responsibilty of the hunter plays a large role as hunters can be additiive to gamebird decline under the right circumstances and when occupying the wrong spot on their decline curve.
One need not always shoot a bird to kill it either.

A good evening benedcition would be..Lord, leadeth me not into skirmish lines.

lol ok, yeah we past on rooters because we could tell they took a hard hit, but it seem quail was strong saw 4 nice coveys of atleast 18 or 19 that we justmlet fly, better yet the best part was watching them come down to lant very pretty.

Upland,
You are beating a dead horse. I understand your op, not enough Info, You keep adding, to your Op, no problem. I'm not picking on you. Just stating my point. Really brother we are good.:10sign::cheers:

Now you see why so many have quit upland hunting. To much effort for a small return for most. Scouting, asking permission, training dogs etc. It's something you have to love. Keep at 'em even if its tough going and learn to enjoy letting them fly off as much as shooting.

lol ok sounds good, so how was your bird weekend any better than mine?

Well this year might just have to be the year for the game ranches for dog work. I really don't want to kill the birds on our land.
