Yes I think they will get a little taller. Rain still helps but it would have done alot more in early July. I was looking at a food plot of mine today that I am not satified with and mentally expressing my disapointment with it when a bunch of pheasants got up, so who knows.

Hope for a few weeks of warm and sunny weather. Days are getting shorter and the ground is cooling.
Plants grow for one thing only, that is to go to seed.
I think there will be a decent improvement. A early frost will be the end of it.

Aren't those warm season crops? The combination of cooler weather and lack of rain might be the wrong combination.

your not alone

Our food plots are a mixed bag. The corn looks fantastic, tall, thick and even has some grass between the rows. The pheasants forever bags we planted is about waist high thick but no heads on it yet was expecting it to be a little taller but have to reread the bag. The tall sorgum (Mustang seed) is tall 5-6 feet and is starting the have seeds on the tops. A lot of corn on the neighbors land next to ours so will be interesting where the birds are during hunting season. Our one renter left some weedy strips of wheat along the fence rows in one field, and I think these spots will be fantastic for birds, no hunting pressure at this location. I did throw down some older sorgum seed this past weekend on some small plots I plan to plant next year, not sure if it will provide any benifit this year but thought what the heck. Plots are next to weed patches so you never know.

Did see some birds in the ditches but they were all small.... 6 weeks to grow I guess. sdviking
