Season winding down

Can't believe its less than a month and the season will be a recent memory. It sounds as though everyone is having a pretty good season thus far.

I've missed two weekends which is two more than I intended to. It's been a memorable season so far.

Glad you had a good season,

I have had a tough season dog wise, Indy has been out of action 5 weeks of this season so far, due to injuries. Hope to get him out this weekend.

Glad you have had a good season. Unfortunately for me, last weekend was my first weekend out. The season before last I had to put my lab down just after Thanksgiving. Went out once the following January with my dad and my son and no dogs. Walked and walked and took one pheasant and three quail. Didn't even uncase the gun last season. The good news is the son and I both have the bug again after getting out last weekend. Planning to get at least one more trip in this season. Going to start working on the wife about a new lab pup. It's just not the same without a dog. Good luck to everyone for the remainder of the season.

Understand about the dog. I don't know if I could hunt without one. My season has been memorable not because of number of birds killed because I haven't shot that many but more so with the dogs. I've had some really good dog work this year.

steve Obie is on injured reserve right now too. He should be back out this weekend though.

I did not hunt KS enough this season. Now its time to get a few wrestling tournaments in for the boy so he can catch up to the competition. If possible, we'll make it out for a few short Sunday afternoon quail hunts before they shut'er down on us.

After bowing to the weather last weekend, I'm ready to get back at it. have tentative plans for Sunday and hope to get in at least one day on each of the remaining weekends. A more realistic expectation would be two more days.

Me neither. First kid came in September -- got to do Montana in October, hunted in Missouri a couple of times and Kansas just a few weekends. Hope to get a few more days afield before it comes to an end. When we've gone, we've found birds in respectable numbers (especially in comparison to the last couple of years).

Saw more birds this year than the last two. Harvested less though. They were really wild. One guy hunting with us did kill two chickens though. We made some pass shoot plans , they worked for him!

I'd love to know just how many times I've had people say "I sure wish I had your job". Well this time of year I'd sometimes trade! It seems like there is a new priority each week at work. I am just now getting some hunting in and it's gonna be 15 tomorrow. Finally, some folks decided that the last week of bird season is a good time for meetings! 2-4 days of that and the season dies with a whimper. Bitch session concluded!!!

Duck season opens, I do law enforcement; bird season opens, I do law enforcement; deer season opens (5 months of that with every weapon type but a dull spoon), I do law enforcement. Ouch!

It doesn't sound like a job to wish for when ya put it that way:eek:

Bummer. Now I'm curious. If you don't mind sharing, what do you do Troy?

Sorry to bitch, pile got too big for a minute! The meetings scheduled in the last week of bird season left a dent! What happened to high school when we could play ball, trap, hunt, and support a girl friend all around homework and a part time job???? Did they shorten the days by half???

Troy add to your list - keeping all of us straight on our complaining here too. It's nice to have a person in your career field to explain things in-depth.

Something very wrong with this.

I certain appreciate the work you do at BW and very much appreciate your wisdom here on UPH.

If it is of any consolation at all, my job gives us "company holidays", but they are just for Christmas and Thanksgiving and that sort of thing. They don't recognize any of the season openers as holidays, and working on snow days is an absolute requirement, no exceptions. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my job and I work with a crew of great people. We all miss a lot of season, that's all I'm saying.

I've also been looking at the calendar in shock and disbelief. Where did the season go?

I feel everyone's pain: our season in Ohio runs Nov 7-Jan 4. And the only real birds we have are pen raised and released in bulk amounts, so where you can't even work your dog because there are just too many people.

I totally agree. After thanksgiving my work schedule increases to six days sometimes seven days a week..luckily i have requested for vacation time week after next so i can get out for a late season hunt. Good thing i have this little girl to work with to get me ready for next year.
