SD season thus far….

Wind much more mellow, temp over 40
to start…sunny…very pleasant. Stuff was happening right away, hunted a GPA nearby, didn’t hunt it much last year…bird #’s are good, found them bunched, kept flushing, kept flushing. Walked another 200 yards, the 10 year old points a clump, kicked it, a cock erupts out of it. Knowing “spots within spots” sure helps. Dogs are in good shape, not pushing all day helps. Not getting my steps in! 😩

2nd day of warm temps and reduced wind…birds still pretty bunched, at least they were before 11am or so, didn’t hunt after that. Still seeing a large # of young roosters…fully feathered and colored for the most part, definitely smaller birds…this hatch was pretty phenomenal, it appears. Drove West to scout some grouse areas for something to do..,lots of pheasants out here, too…

In SD now having a great time, more young roosters harvested in one day then my past 15 years coming out here. Most of either been late hatches or second hatches. I've shot ruffed grouse bigger than some of these roosters. No bad karma yet, probably just jinxed our hunt. Making the shots presented to us and killing our 3 man limit daily by 2.
