Sand Pines

Headed there yesterday with my bro-in-law. There is snow there but still plenty of cover. We had them place 12, jumped 21 and took home 15. Hunted the full 4 hours and saw birds the entire time. I'm impressed with the size of their fields. The highlight for me was my new 1 year old shorthair had 6 very solid points and made three excellent retrieves which was a lot more than I was hoping for. Barring any more huge snow falls I hope to make it out there a couple more times before they run out of birds. Jerry said they have about 2000 currently.

They do have a great place up there. Im hoping i can get out there in January. Maybe we can get out there together since we didn't make it out this season.

Guys my Saturdays are pretty wide open in Jan. Field 4 has some good cover and they claim a lot of their escapee's head to that field.

The wife and I were up there a couple days ago also.
I hunted field 4 a couple weeks ago and by myself it was hard to get the birds to fly on the right side of the willows but what the heck I shot my birds and saw more then I paid for. I think they do a great job up there.

I talked to Keith at Pheasant Fest yesterday. He says he has a lot of birds (and plenty of snow). Thinking as soon as we get a good melt I'm going to head out there. A nice thing for me since my buddies wives are pretty lame is he reduced his weekend minimum to 6.

I talked to Tbear at Pheasant Fest. We were thinking of doing a spring UPH hunt at Sand Pine. Would anyone be interested?

I maybe able to go if it's on the right weekend?

Swear by SandPine!

We love Sandpine! We hit up the game farms at least twice per year, and plan a yearly hunt with all of our buddies, and rent at least 4 of the 5 fields they have there. Keith's the greatest, and the guides are top-notch.
That is our go-to-place, for sure.

Tried Major Avenue Hunt club in Glencoe. The birds rarely left the ground, and the dogs actually got more than we shot.

We always end up back at Sandpine :)

Hey guys, I am new to this forum but i seen all the good stuff everyone is saying about sandpines. I guide up there for keith when he has europian hunts and he has a fine place. I go up there a few times each year. I have a 1 1/2 year old gsp that i hunt with. give me a shout if anyone wants to head up there.

Keith did say his cover is packed down pretty good with all the snow we have gotten. I would think every were is. I will keep in touch with him and let everyone know what we can get put together. Are we thinking end of March?

I am open to what everyone else would like to do, but at this point I would vote to wait and see what the weather does for awhile. I would think most of this snow should melt by the end of March.

I was there a good month ago. I'd say there was barely enough cover with all the snow for two guys. Now they've gotten a lot more snow. I personally don't think there is enough cover for a large group. I've been planning on heading there once we get a good melt. Thoughts?

Let's wait and see if we get a good melting and then re-evaluate.

Care to host a field trial on your land? You help out your local community, and small business. Restaurants, hotel, gas, and so on. Let me know if you have a site in west central MN. Thanks

FC, what do you need for your trials? We have 2 NSTRA trials scheduled at Metz Pheasant Heaven near Donnelly, MN. Since we have never had a trial there before I don't know how they are set up. I know we will be running our trials on two 40 acre fields. Our first trial there in the weekend of April 6-7. But if the snow doesn't melt between now and then that trial could be in jeopardy.

It might be a place for you to consider if you're looking in west central MN. They don't have a web site and there doesn't seem to be much info out there on them but it is a preserve. I can put you in touch with the guy from Morris that is running our trial a Metz and he could give you the scoop.
