Ryman Setter Size

Hey guys. I had an almost 4 month old Ryman setter. He is 21 pounds which I feel is on the light side. This is my first bird dog. I have 2 other dogs. One Bernese Mountain Dog and a Bernedoodle so I’m used to giant dogs. I just feel like he isn’t growing much. What are you guys feeding and how much? Thanks so much

I was having the same issue with my young Chessie. I researched foods with higher fat content and settled on Innukshuk Marine. It made a big difference, especially during the season when we were hunting a bunch. Good luck!

PPP. Follow feeding instructions on bag. I just checked my feeding amounts for the off season. In my case it doesn’t seem like much food but I wanna keep them lean. It can be easy to get willy nilly when scooping food

I second Innukshuk, the nutrient concentrate has really helped with my picky eater. They both love the taste too. I use the 30/25 mix but will probably switch to 25/16 for this offseason.

I feed my Lab Inukshuk 26/16 and he likes it. I am trying to drop weight from him right now.

Forget dog foods. Let's get back to Setter513's real question. Is 21 lbs about right for a 4 month old Ryman Setter? I think you are better asking the breeder. How large are the parents? Nothing wrong with having a dog a little smaller than the norm. What are you currently feeding the dog. If it's a quality food and he's eating okay and in good condition I wouldn't worry about it. Hunting dogs should be lean.

I think your dog is right on track. The dog should closely resemble the parents. I have a line bred ryman female. Weighs approximately 53 lbs during hunting season.
