Round UP Ready Corn.

I hate to sound like an ass, but one thing I dislike with a passion is genetically-engineered products. Leave the DNA the way God intended, and deal with it.

Do you guys know that margarine (butter substitute) is just a molecule away from being classified as a plastic by most chemical engineers? I don't like to eat genetically-engineered products. Start altering my pheasant, turkey and deer, and we'll have some words.

I'm already getting to the point to where I'll pay a premium to buy beef, chicken and pork from a local butcher because I know it's not full of hormones and antibiotics.

I gorw eat and slel getenicllay mdofeid sewet cron. It's the bset. I can't see wrhee it's had any ecefft on me.

If you don't like atrizine you can use Dual Magnum. It's just Bicep without the atrizine and it works good on lots of weeds. It's a preemergnce. Plant and spray.

MNMT, watch the movie FOOD, Inc if you have not already. .

Chris do you really think that is a viable way of farming? His techniques would never be able to provide the food this country needs to survive. I guess if you are suggesting to watch it you like a good fantasy/fiction movie is one thing but to suggest watching it because it is a viable way of farming is another.

How can you singing the praises of Food Inc and talk about the evils of big ag and then go spray Plateau a chemical that has about as long of a residual effect as you can get?

Recieving a degree in Agronomy (crop science) with an emphasis on genetics I can assure everyone that at the cellular level there is no difference between Conventional/ Non GMO corn and GMO corn. Eventually with extensive breeding efforts corn could become Round Up/ Glyphosate resistant without being GMO. The reason for making it GMO is to breed it into the corn faster and it's an insurance for the company that the trait is actually there. Also all the agricultural products that are on the market today go through way more testing to ensure it's saftey compared to products that came on to the market 20 years ago. Not to mention farmers have to produce more bushels on fewer acers do to population growth urban sprawl and alot of ppl that want to live in the country but don't want to support a farmer many of which do not like the use of pesticides. Well the cure to some of this problem is to produce corn that can resist some of the pest or tolerate a safter chemical so we up up with a GMO.

To answer the question it is illegal to plant a GMO seed bc Monsanto came up with a technology fee to pay for the research that went into developing the RR corn. If you want an easy way around this I throw away 50 plus bushels of corn seed a yr which equals about 115 acers of product. Contact me and if you pay for the shipping I'll ship some to you.

I feel sorry for you Beercity, you have been brain washed by the evil big ag empire which controls the Ag college you attended and everything else in this country. What they did not tell you is that when they made GMO corn they implanted a tiny gene which ensures that big ag will be able to control your every thought and action when you eat it. It is all part of there plan for world dominance.

Any Corn that has RR on the bag or tag uses the RR gene from Monsanto. The seed company pays a Royalty fee to Monsanto for the use of the technology. The Seed companies do not have their own gene. If the Seed has GT on the bag or tag, the seed company is paying Syngenta a royalty fee. GT is Glyphosate Tolerant or commonly known as Roundup Ready.
Just for an FYI you only have about five major corn breeding companies in the US, Cornstates(monsanto), Dupont(Pioneer),Dow,Syngenta(Greenleaf), and AgReliant. Monsanto owns Dekalb/Asgrow, Channel Bio and everything under the American Seeds LLC umbrella. The smaller seed companies are getting their germplasm from these breeding programs, with the vast majority getting genetics from Cornstates and Greenleaf.

Thanks Wirehairs, this is good info.

The way I look at it. If not for modern farming and all that goes with it, it would take all usable land, no matter how marginal to feed all the people. Nothing left for CRP, urban sprawl, road ditches. Every available spot would have a squash or cabbage or something growing on it producing low yielding crops.

There's less acres being farmed now then back in the homesteading era.
Corn yield has gone from less then 50 bushels per acre to about 170. Pretty much the same for all crops. Livestock too.:)

Used to wean 400 pound 7 month old calves, now we have 7-8 hundred pound.
1300 pound fed steers in 13-15 months. NO HORMONES and NO MEDICATION.

Technology is everywhere. Mostly for the good of the growing human population.

I gave the corn a shot of roundup, been 24 hours the corn is doing just fine.:)
For those that are thinking jail time:eek: for old mnmt.
Well:( Y'all are witnesses, The end of the experiment. It's over, ain't planting any for any reason.

I'm glad you want the future of farming to be slave labor:thumbsup: You enjoy watching the slave labor of ag stuggle buying everyday things like food? Does it make you proud they can't pay the labor better when they are making alot? Does it make you proud their filling are towns with criminals? The greats thing are country could do is finally make ag pay workers a fair wage. Most of them seasonal workers are good people but deserve to be treated better by those that look at them as nothing more then a slave.

I am more worried about insectcides then RR. RR will run it's course maybe after it kills a the plants in the water first. Is thier a reason nothing grows for 70 miles down stream from where they make it:D

If you are worried about bad consequences using corn I would suggest using milo which has no gmo or roundup traits and the seed is much cheaper than corn. Also if planting for pheasants or quail is much better. Do have to use some fertilizer for best results but weeds are sometimes just as good in a food plot as the planted crop but can use bicept if using treated seed or just atrazine if not. Personally I use milo and soybeans mixed and use no chemicals and do have some weeds and foxtail but the birds will use it a lot.
