The LC Smith I have was my great great grandmothers I think and was made around 1890 and it's a 16 gauge 30-in full no 28 in full modified side by side. It has Damascus barrels. I think it's kind of a mid-grain field model mid-grade field model. It was definitely used a lot for a lot of years. I got it from my grandpa when he moved out of his cabin.Goose, do you know what grade it is? Got any pictures? I have a 1905 12b and a 1944 16b. Both are lower grade guns, but I love shooting pheasants and ducks with them. the 16 is on the left and the 12 is on the right.
I got the chance to handle one last year. It was beautiful. But I didn't care for the feel, balance and bulk. But I wouldn't turn one down as a present.Yeah, I'll load him my Caesar gerini![]()
It's funny you mention those brands. I have an old Crescent 16ga SxS that I shot for years. My guess is it is a late 1890's gun. The stock head was not tight, it was not tight on face without a lit love tab here and there... As kid growing up though it was a great grouse gun in Michigan woods and even shot a few Kansas pheasants. If I see a guy with a Savage, or a gun made by Sears, or JCPenney or whatever you know I just say you know. I have never seen one in person, only in magazines.I got the chance to handle one last year. It was beautiful. But I didn't care for the feel, balance and bulk. But I wouldn't turn one down as a present.
