Recommendations on a strap vest?

I'm thinking of the new Tenzing vest as scene on the new PF email under gear and guns. It's kind of spendy but I'd really like one with water bottle pockets.

Vest

Really nice looking vest. I hope you get it. I picked up an LL bean on clearance for 36 bucks that has water holding pockets, but it's not in the same league as the tenzing. I'm seeing about $215. If you get it cheaper let me know. I gotta buy several boxes of kent tm for my 16 gauge so I got to cut some corners here and there. Danner boots completely worn out and leak like sieves. Interested in those new havoc boots that George is talking about. All that stuff is pricey, but you gotta have decent gear to look your best for the wife.

I haven't seen a good picture of the tenzing vest. Does it come with water bottle pockets or a drinking tube system? Anyone like the Bird'N Lite Strap Vest?

Make it three for the Wing Works vest. After looking at the Tenzing and trying various strap vests, I would recommend buying one with the least restrictive front straps. I have found that the padded front strap is a nuisance when shouldering the gun. Good luck with your choice.

The answer to your question comes down to what type of ground you are hunting. I have no use for a ww vest at all a complete waste. Why because I hunt small pockets of cover. That take 15-45min to cover. I have no need for water bottles or pockets for other crap. Give me a place to stuff a dozen spare shells (I miss a lot) a bird or two and I am happy. I do not want to take off my vest off when I get back in the vehicle and don't need water because I have a bottle of water in the cup holder. A 30 dollar simple cabelas or bass pro strap vest works fine. If I hunted big tracks of land I would sing a different song.

I agree that a small light best is great on quick hunts, or hitting corners. Thanks to HUGE 4wd tractors, we walk 1-mile fields with 2-6 GSP's, those big water bottles come in handy...for the dogs. Also, in the Texas Panhandle, we may start out at 0 degrees and finish the day at 60. The Wing Works holds what you need in those type of hunts.

I use my 6 year old Filson that is soft as butter for those short and quick runs. Have also thrown shells in my pocket and tucked pheasant feet under my belt...had just as much success and best of all...fun!

I got the bird-n-lite strap vest last year from PF and like it. I can tell the difference in how the load is carried. It has two places for water bottles. I never liked using the reservoir type of drinking systems and bottles work better for the dogs.

I found that bottles alone are worse for the dogs. I now carry a collapsible bowl so none of the water is wasted trying to drink from a bottle. The water goes twice as far.
I wish I could find a strap vest that holds 4 water bottles not just 2.

You can put a bigger 3rd bottle in the back of the Wing Works that brings you up to about a 4 bottle total.

My vote would be for the wingworks vest. Last year was my first season with it and my only regret was not getting one sooner. There are 2 32oz. bottle holders on the belt and room for a larger bottle in a pocket inside the game bag. They now have bladders that fit in the pocket inside the game bag. The shell pockets are deep and will easily hold multiple boxes of shells. There are other pockets for misc. stuff and they are well built and very comfortable. I don't think you can go wrong with a ww vest. My suggestion would be to order it asap or you could be waiting awhile. They're custom built from measurements that you provide.

Uncle Bucks vest is really nice upland vest, place for transmitter, water, has a small backpack, and a lumbar for those long walk days, I have had mine now for 3 years and love it.
