Rain this year and bird production

This year sure seems different from last year. I was surprised to see we had a little more moisture this year, than last. Difference must be the heat, last year cold and dreary clear into July. This year rain has been warm and brief. Seems like we ought to have some more successful quail production this year, for the first time in a long time. I have been haying and not seen any, but lots of young turkeys, in all age groups from little to half grown.

That little shower we had last nite was a welcome thing. Same thing here on the turkeys. They've been running all over and are not hard to find. It would be nice to see a few more quail around. Hopefully they'll survive this heat.

In my travels of farming and scouting my crops I have seen a few more little quail and still seeing an occasional pair and that tells me they are still trying to raise more little ones. We had some nice slow rain today but have been hot and dry so dont believe the little quail will have gotten chilled or drowned as has happened the past few years but time will tell. Hope everyone will have some birds for our dogs to work and be safe in doing it.

Ive talked to quite a few guys and they haven't seen any quail chicks yet. Seen pairs and plenty of turkey poults. Im predicting a worse season than last due to the harsh winter and extreme heat/dry weather during. :(
