cats, continental dogs, we hunt, and eat everything
I should have said fur in general. Ihad been away from hunting and pointing dogs for a while, got back into it and decided after a lifetime of pointers and setters, to try french brittanies. Have to say that they were pretty much as advertised, smart, nearly broke themselves, all good things.... except, cats, mice, rabbits, deer, anything FUR. I have never used an e-collar. Problem is, with all the continental breeds, it's bred into them for a couple a hundred years. Hell the europeans are plumb proud of it, to the point I want to punch the next idiot that talks about "sharpness on game", sharpness toward man, ( E-gads! in this lawsuit happy enviornment), and blood trailing deer, killing foxes, etc. Suffice to say, I now own an e-collar, couldn't agree with the above advice more. I have by use of discretionary electric voltage to work out a cautious peace between the cats, skunks, deer, " hairy what have you", and the "bird dogs", as long as the threat of electrocution is present. Otherwise all bets are off. Pretty sorry state of affairs, to have to resort to that. I have seen and been around countless shorthairs which were the same way. My english setters and pointers, slept with the cats, by the way. Primary problem is active minds and off season boredom. Pay your money, take your chances, or marry in haste, repent at leisure.
