I thought by the forecast Sunday the 18 th we were going -20 wind chills after we got back form church it was like Sunny and 6 degrees and very little wind .
After making lunch I couldn't stand it any longer , I had an errand to do for the landowner I hunt on then I could start my hunt . I loaded up my 8 month old pup and we were off . when we made it to our spot the truck temp send 9 degrees . My pup pointed 2 coveys of quail that we did not hunt since it was cold and getting later in the day we let them go for another day .
This ornery rooster flushed long on us and I saw him head over the horizon for a small patch of CRP . With any luck I hoped to find him . I sent Ginger into the wind , shortly in the cover she locked up , I will never forget it , young orange and white Britt , snow covered CRP and most shafts of blue stem encased in ice .
Ginger held tight as I shuffled the grass in front of her , look out here came a rooster . I caught the bird in the edge of the pattern and we had a runner . I hated that I messed up on her first rooster point . The little dog marked where the bird fell and searched the sight and then was off on a track , she temporarily lost the track double backed and picked it up again . After 200 yds of trailing she pointed the bird and retrieved him to hand . I love to see when the light comes on and a bird fining fire is lit in a young dog .
She road in the front of the truck on the seat beside me and I bought her a cheeseburger for her hard work .
