Problems with dogtra 2500 t&b

Guys I just bought mine new for this hunting season and it has been acting up.

Took it out on Sunday and used it with fully charged batteries in both the transmitter and receiver. Was working fine until I got into really tall grass and switch to run and point mode so I could have a sense where my dog was. After an half an hour of beeping every 7 seconds I did not hear nothing so I pushed the locate button since I have it set on low beep. Did not hear nothing was getting afraid something happened to her. Finally found her 100 yards out but the beeper was not working. Called her to come and thought maybe try turning it off and on to see if it was still working but turns out the receiver turned it self off. So I thought nothing of it maybe I accidentally turned it off.

Another hour later happened again the receiver turned off while on run and point mode. I called dogtra and they said never heard of that problem and to just send it in and they will take a look at it. Bad thing is I got a big trip this coming Monday and asked them when I can get the unit back if I shipped it today. They said the turn around time is 2 days after they receive it. They recommend to wait until the season is over and then send it back. Now I hope the unit don't crap out on my big trip. I spent a lot of money on this unit so that I don't have to worry about losing her but now I worry about it every time we get out in the field. This sucks I wished I went with the tritronics now.

Has anybody else have problems with there dogtra 2500 t&b?

Just bad luck. Even guys who by Tritronics can have bad luck. There isn't an electronic device made that hasn't had a failure.

Both are great companies and will take care of their customers.

Probably a few threads on here that myself and others have provided input on that exact same model.

Dogtra really took a nosedive in support when they introduced it, LOTS of problems and worst of all--they knew of some of them and shipped defective units anyway.

I'd ask them if they'd make good by swapping your 2500 with an older design 2000 model--those were bombproof and worked very well.

tm, I don't know if your statements are totally accurate. I'm seriously considering buying the Dogtra 2502T&B and have done a lot of research on these units. I do think that when first introduced there were some problems but I have talked to several people that have recently purchased either the 2500 or 2502 and they love them. No problems what so ever. I've had Dogtra products for over 6 years and have found them to be excellent in quality. I think GSP had it right when he said:

Guess I might have to switch brands and take a look at the DT Systems SPT 2432 combo collar. It has all the features I'm looking for including the "Vibrate". Neither TirTronics or Dogtra have Vibrate on their beeper collars. I hunted with fourtrax from this site and he has the DT Systems collar and likes it real well. Anyone else have any expereince with the DT?

Not their collars, but I have had good luck with DT launchers. When I did have a problem with my transmitter, they had a new one in the mail to me the next day. Very good customer service.

There may be something to the problems that guys are voicing with the 2500. I run a 2002 T&B and concur, it is bomber. Love it. Two of the guys I hunt with have 2502 T&B's. One guy loves his, the other has had problems. The idea of an integrated beeper/stim is nice. However, having the beeper facing down would be a deal breaker for me.

It's a shame the 2002 T&B is no longer available...

GundogsOnline.com still offers the 2002 T&B.

But the 2002 still doesn't have a vibrate feature and for the same money I can get the DT Systems 2432 that has vibrate and some other features the 2002 doesn't.

I currently am using the 2002 T&B and have so for 4 years. They are bullit proof, but if I was to replace it with another, I would have to take a good look at the DT systems 2432 combo. My breeder who used to pro staff for Dogtra told me that he and some of his trainers switched to DT Systems because of some of the early problems with the 2500 series. He told me to go with DT if I ever wanted to get another one.

hi I use a DT5000 UPLAND model with run and point beeper, thing works awesome never 1 problem with it, but i have friends that use Dogtra and they been good to them too.

sent the unit in..

Had more problems again this last weekend. The receiver would turn off on its own. Hopefully Dogtra will take care of the problem and I get back a working unit without anymore problems.:)

Sorry to hear you are still having problems with your 2500T&B. Please keep us informed as to whether Dogtra gets this corrected.

As for myself, I think I'm going to stay with my current Dogtra 202NCP and just add a stand alone beeper. It will be much cheaper and I don't want to give up the Vibrate feature as that is all I need to control my dogs. I think I'm going to try one of the Sportdog beepers as they are much easier to change settings than the TriTronics. Either the DSL-400 or the Add-A-Beeper.

finally got back the collar...

Service was good and fast. One week turn around time for the whole transaction. They said it was the pcb board on the receiver. They replaced and shipped back. Hopefully get to use it friday. My dog is going crazy since not being able to hunt this past weekend. Have my fingers cross that this will be my last problem with this unit.

Hopefully they figure it out. I have a 2000 T&B. I've been using it for 6 years now without any issues. Had to ship the collar away once for a replacement transmitter, as the original was stolen from my truck. As with your case, quick turnaround. When this collar finally craps out, or I decide to get a two-dog unit, I'll likely stick with Dogtra. However, like one individual stated, I think the beeper being mounted on the receiver is a serious design flaw with the 2500 series. The horn should be a separate unit, above the dog's head.
