PA Pheasant Season

I may head out today and look for some doves since it's the last day. I know a place they hang out and the dogs actually pointed them earlier in the week but they flew off before I got there. I have a quail hunt Friday morning at a preserve and I hope to get out to Onpoint one time this winter. And don't forget about the flushing surveys! That's the chance to hunt wild pheasants with the camera. I'll also have to work on the puppy things with Champ once he arrives. If I could only retire things would be easier!

Didn't find any doves. The hawk in the same area might have had something to do with that. The dogs did find 3 hens while walking to the woodlot that holds the doves. Happy New Year!

I am sure it felt good to get out! We'll probally have a few more hunts, then it will be all habitat work.
No sign of the quail this year?

I have not seen the dove since late October/early November. I think a couple of cooper's hawks did them in this year.

I hope to get some habitat work done this spring down at the club. We'll see how it goes.

We decided to check out a new spot today, we are familiar with the area but not this particular tract of land and we had a really good day! It was neat to see the weather roll in, it was actually sunny in the morning and then on the way home we were driving on snow covered roads! Dugan worked very good and it was just nice to be out hunting! Dugan got scent two times and each time flushed a hen and we got them both!

It's going to be hard to say good-bye to this season. Dugan was on his game today, he just seems to know where the birds are likely to be hiding. He only showed birds twice and we were lucky enough to hit em.
We passed a SGL and I was suprised to see all the guys still out bird hunting. I think the PGC is getting their wish.

We also found a place that makes great porkroll egg and cheese sandwiches!

Man... you guys are still knocking it out of the park, I have to tip my hat to you guys!
Will you guys be at the flushing survey?

Will you guys be at the flushing survey?

Not sure! We really look forward to the surveys, it's been the highlight of the past few seasons. But our Springer is getting up in age and the problem is he doesn't think so. :) He attacks cover with an almost reckless abandon like a young pup. So We'll keep an eye on the weather and see how it goes.

How about you, will you attend?

Well your dog "Dugan" has certainly earned some time by the fire!

Not sure if I will go, Im trying to talk my buddy into bringing his Britt.

Can anyone go to watch or does every one participate. I would like to see it and watch others dogs, I'm not sure how my dog will act around other pointers and flushers he's never really hunted with other dogs ( just my old one but the old dog just goes for the stroll these days ) I didn't get him from hunting stock, I don't think he has the balls to the wall motivation that's why Id like to see other flushers at work but would love to bring him.

Dave,

By all means if you get the chance you should attend, even if it's just to mingle. There will be people with very trained dogs and just like real life there will be people with dogs that maybe only get on birds a couple times a year. As long as your pup isn't a fighter no one will judge his performance. It's a good way to meet the people that are doing the hard work. The PGC LOVES the support!

Dave,
