Thanks for posting. The Loyalstock game farm is where I go to pick up the day old chicks we raise at the local club. But our operation is a lot smaller. Looking forward to fall!
 
Parooster- They don't sell older birds. Here is some information from the PGC website:
Day-Old Hen Pheasant Chick & Surplus Egg Program



The Pennsylvania Game Commission sells day-old hen pheasant chicks and surplus eggs in lots of 100 chicks for $60 or 300 eggs for $180. Eggs and chicks must be ordered by March 31. Early requests receive top priority. Applicants who intend to sell, barter or transfer possession of the pheasant chicks/eggs for purposes other than releasing pheasants onto lands where public hunting is permitted are required to have an agency-issued Game Propagator Permit. Both eggs and chicks must be picked up at the supplying Pennsylvania Game Commission game farm. The application to purchase surplus day-old hen pheasant chicks or pheasant eggs can be downloaded in the PDF file found below.

Wow! The PGC has some very nice rearing facilities. Looks like they're doing some great things with both the released pheasants AND the wild trapped birds. I often wondered if an f1 breeding program would be worth wild.

Thanks for the info. They sure produce some healthy birds. I don't think I could raise them from eggs or one day old.
I think the PGC is doing a GREAT job with the pheasants!

You're right the PGC is doing a great job on both the stocking program and the wild pheasant trap n transfer, THEY GET IT!!

I would love to see a captive wild bird breeding program. Just look at what just a few hundred wild birds have done in the WPRA's.

Now that was neat to see how they go about raising and releasing pheasants! The only thing that would have made it better is a voice over with more information.

I wonder what it costs to raise 200,000 pheasants...and what pheasants do they use for laying? If they used some of the wild birds from Montana, would they stand to get a better survival rate?
 
When wild pheasants in PA started to decrease the PGC wanted to get some more wild genes in their pheasants. So, they trapped some of the last wild birds in PA and used them as part of their bird raising program. The quality of the birds increased but it didn't help with establishing a wild population. Anybody want to guess where the birds were trapped?
 
A wild hen will only lay around 20 or so eggs in captivity where a pen raised hen will lay 50-80 a year. It would be more productive to use wild roosters for breeding f1 stock than wild hens.
