Overhead dove shots

Crossing shot

I am ready for dove opener except for one presentation, the overhead shot. Getting a good mount concerns me. Can mount well up to a 60 degree angle. Above 60 degree angle, there's a 50/50 chance for a poor mount. I guess that's why it is harder to hit dove/duck than quail/pheasant. Only hunt dove one day a year.

normal conditions, at least with the guys we hunt with, if you can hit one out of five, regardless of where they are flying at, is good. dove opener is what keeps shotgun shell mfg in business. we finally located a hot field this am, probably saw several hundred birds. Farmers are so happy with corn harvest, they would give you permission to hunt anything right now.

On opening morning of dove season I enjoy watching others twist themselves into the ground trying to hit every bird that flies by within 50yds of them. It's very comical to watch a guy empty his gun on a group of birds and know he never singled one out to shoot at. Good luck guys, I hope everyone's barrels stay hot.

I always have a goal when dove hunting, which is to shoot my limit using only 1 box of shells. I would say I accomplish this a couple of times during the season.

in my younger days, I once shot 15 birds with 21 shells. Can also remember missing 18 shots in a row. Just depends on which way the wind is blowing, no rhyme or reason. Hope to be able to pull the trigger 25 times tomorrow. So much grain cut, that it won't take long for them to relocate to another field
