Over and Under or Side by Side the best?

Pretty uninformative Utube video. Both the SxS and the O/U are excellent upland guns and each will do the job equally qell. It's really a matter of personal preference. Some people don't care for the wider sight plane of the SxS and other will say it's an advantage. It all depends on what you think.

I have an O/U that I like, but some day I would like to hunt with a SxS to see how I like it.

Would like to try out a gun with double triggers, some time too.

SxS for rising shots like bobwhite or grouse. The British like them best for the type of incoming shots they take on driven birds. O/U is best for crossing shots like pheasants & dove. They are far more popular for target games because the narrower barrel profile makes for a more precise insertion point on the target.

O/U’s with double triggers are more common in Europe for hunting. I had Coles Gunshop in Main put them in my Beretta & I love the ability to instantly shoot the top (tight choke) w/out thinking about it.

Think it is mostly "different strokes for different folks," when it comes to choice.

I've seen articles and arguments for one or the other. Works out to paying your money and taking your choice.

I grew up wanting to be an outdoorsman, and the traditional side-by-side was always the bird gun I coveted. It defined upland hunting in my mind.

So, I have two 12ga and a 20ga sxs.

Gotta admit, with enough money, you can get an over-and-under that is a work of art in engraving, balance, and quality wood.

I vaguely recall someone saying the o/u was easier to produce, but don't remember the details, and kind of question the premise.

Here are the guns; the twenty is far and away the most utilized. :)

I'd love to have a SxS. I actually bought one while in Turkey but sold it when I got home and kept the O/U.

Kismet what is the make of your SxS's? Fine looking guns.

Someday I'd like to have an LC or Parker to hunt with. I just think it would be awesome to carry and old gun, which if could talk, would have a ton of stories.

20=AYA Matador II, 26in, imp/mod,3 in, selective trigger, vent rib.
12=Stevens 311, 30 in, mod/full, 2 3/4, double trigger
12=AYA/Sears Roebuck, 28 in, bored imp/mod, 2 3/4, double trigger.

thank you

The one on the left(311 I believe), I have never seen the operating lever that far left of center. Looks to be well worn. Is it loose?

I have learned over time and as money would allow. A person needs to spend a bit and get a real quality gun eventually. Entry level guns get you by, and for some they may be all they need or want. That's cool too. I'm working on upgrading my guns all the time. Always shopping for great bargains on high quality long lasting O/U's for the most part but watching for premium SxS's as well.

Yeah whatever you do buy quality if you plan to shoot much.

If you can't afford to buy a entry level beretta or browning rock on with a pump or auto but don't go super cheap there either.

You'll have more pride of ownership and less problems with a $600 pump than a similiar priced over under.

Not trying to offend anybody or anything but I see a ton of problems with cheaper over unders shooting sporting clays. They are more complex than a lot of guys think.

i just bought a Benelli supernova and i hope it serves me well for years to come. seems like a VERY solid gun, but by the time i got home it was dark, so i didn't get to shoot it yet :mad:
