Opening day reports.

Well everyone wants to know so tell us your reports.

Mine is that there is a ray of hope for the arm pit of SD hunting. We had a good day with 3 of us one short of a full limit. That's one of the better opening days we have had. Granted we started walking at 12:00 and did not stop, except to drive a mile or two to the next spot, until sun set. A good day over all.

Northwest of Winner, SD near Witten 17 guys and three dogs shot 49 Roosters and missed probably that many, walking only two fields. All wild birds. Decided not to disturb another field when we were that close to a limit for the group. We will be at it again this afternoon. Life is great!

On Saturday we had a group of 12 on private land west of Aberdeen and ended the day with 32 birds. Could have very easily had a limit. Today I went back out at about 1:30 and hunted only a couple hours and there were 6 of us. Started raining about the time we started hunting. Walked a few small weed patches. The guys missed a few but the dogs and I got two. All I've been using is my new BSA 16 ga. SxS and I've been deadly. Really liking the gun. And the best thing over the past two days is that my young Brittany, Elle, has started retrieving pheasants to hand. She didn't retrieve everyone she had a chance on yesterday but did make 3 nice retrieves. Today she brought in both of the birds I shot. One over a beautiful point.

Very nice, hope my Shag will retrieve after some bench work, wish I was there!

Back out today same group of 17 near Witten, SD and we limited out with 51 by about 3:30. The season is really starting out great. Went out looking over the deer hideouts afterword and could have shot two limits of grouse if we hadn't been two lazy to get out of the pickup.

Let's see if I have this picture thing figured out

Nice pics!! Would you mind explaining how to get a picture to past into a post like that... since I cannot figure it out!! Please and Thanks..

I uploaded the pictures to the photobucket website and then copy and past the link into the message. Someone can probably explain it better than me.

Thanks!

Thanks for both repsonses...

I had never heard of photobuckets before, but someone else was just telling me about that too.

What ever happened to the old copy/paste.

I guess this method of linking to an external server keeps the data load in a different place, other than this forum. Pretty smart, but cryptic to figure out.

Thanks again!!

I guide this weekend for On The Point south west of Aberdeen. Man did we see a ton of birds. I really feel bird numbers on there property are up 30 to 40 percent. I had a great group of guys. Two had not pheasant hunted for 30 years and the other 3 had never pheasant hunted before. Had to put them on a lot of birds but they still got there limit in about 4 hours each day. They had another group of 4 that were very good shots and were done in about an hour or so each day. Good luck everyone and stay safe.
