NW Still Good

Hunted Friday and Saturday morning in NW and it is still good. The weather was nice too. Pheasant population is excellent, better probably the closer you get to the NE line. If you have another hunt to do this season, I recommend Rawlins and Norton counties (but not Decatur because it had hail).

i am def going one more time i love the area around norton this will be my second time in that area i dont know why i never made it out that way ? i guess i just like doing things the hardest way possible.

Thanks Britchaser, I hunted the NW area over Thanksgiving weekend. Didn't have much luck. We hunted south of Norton around Hill City in Grahm county. Loved the area! Tons of good cover, just couldn't find the birds. Sounds like I need to head further north. I'll be headed that way one more time this season. I'll send you an update.

Farther west would be good too.

Lots of hunters?

What are the hunter numbers like up around Norton? Was planning a trip up there next week. Have a couple days worth the private land but would mix some WIHA in there to. Just wanted to know what to expect.

Pheasant numbers are about 1/2 of last years numbers. Did see a few quail.
The birds have been heavily pressured, at least where I hunted, and were blowing out way in front of the dogs much of the time.
We got some birds pointed and shot, but it was a tougher year than most.

The private ground is your best bet.

We hunted east and west of Hill City and the hunting was much better the further west and north you went.

Thanks Zeepo. I wondered if that was the case. We only had a few days over Thanksgiving. We didn't venture further west or north more than a few miles of the Hill City area. It's 60 degrees where I am today! What's the weather looking like out there?

pretty much the same. I have looked at the forcast for next weekend, in the 40's and 50's. Kinda sucks.

This mirrors my experience this year.

Birds are spooky now so got to tighten those chokes too. I'm shooting through mod and full for the remainder of the season.

I have only been shooting pointed birds, and as spooky as they are it has been a real challenge

When they are pointed all the shots have been inside 20 yards.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
