Now what?

I guess we get to stay in your cabins???:D Do you allow dogs in the cabins? When do you start and when do you need the most help? I hunted 20+ days in Kansas this year I feel like I should help out.

A straight across swap is in order! I had planned one for tomorrow. Weather man has now screwed me once! He predicted 7-11 on this morning's forecast for tomorrow. Now his forecast is 15-22. Strike 1. Maybe that's sexist, could be a she or an it(computer).

Burning is an "any day it's right" way of planning. I guess I'm closer to being ready now than I was this morning.

I seeded 5 acres for native grass today. Gonna do 10 more next year but need to get my pond built and some more trees taken out first.

I really need to burn this spring. Around pond and below pond dam where I have some brush piles and some saplings coming up I don't want.

In 10 days I will be headed to Texas for 7 days of quail hunting to wrap up my season. Second trip down there this year, it will be a great way to call it a year.

Been running the chainsaw so much I have developed tendinitis in my elbow. With this weather there is gonna be a big grass fire in KS today.

Floors in now getting on motor and water pump. Wife bought enough beer to make things fun. Now I understand what boat stands for . Break Out Another Thousand.

Yup, it's a hole in the water you throw your money into...

I have a meeting coming up with the KDWPT habitat biologist. Can't wait to get his .02 on my little piece of paradise.

Toad- I read up a little bit on that program, and can't figure out how the finances work- do you pay them to make the recommended changes?

I apologize for stepping on the thread, but wanted to reach out to ksgobbler. (I can't reach you by private message.)

I help a lot of folks burn because I enjoy it. Burned 2 places last year that hadn't burned in years. One guy the previous owner took fire out of the landscape to "help the quail" and the native grasses were being taken over by cedars, hedge, locust, etc. It was one of the most impressive fires I have seen. I've got some pictures somewhere. We burned it on a day that had an east wind but the RH bottomed out. We actually waited to burn the second chunk till evening.

We have a farm out by Kingman, Kansas that has some similar conditions. My worst invasive trees are the honeylocust and siberian elms. I need to use fire and chainsaw.

Before I put in a ton of labor, I wanted to ask what worked best for you. If you have the inclination to give advice, please shoot me a PM. If you do have the time to help, but want to avoid private messages, just post a reply in this thread. I will then open a new thread and we can do a discussion out on the open forum to share with everyone.

Thanks,
Rod

I wasn't sure when I read it on the site either. That is what they will throw in to help you with the expenses of your project. They don't do the work. You contract with someone or DIY. The amounts listed on the site are what you might be eligible for in reimbursement from the state.

Got it- thank you
