Not good news for Pheasants

There is no doubt in my mind that we have seen the peak in pheasant numbers in SD. I just don't see it ever getting back to where it was a few years ago. That's not to say that there still won't be some good hunting. Heck back in the late 70's and early 80's before CRP the numbers weren't that great and I still had good hunting. Of course there weren't as many hunters in the field then either.

Zeb if the pheasant numbers go down and stay there then my guess is that so will the number of hunters both locals and out of state. I can only do what I can to keep a little bit of it for myself and friends. I intend to keep up the habitat fight to the end. I agree that unless something changes then it will get worse for bird numbers. How sad :(

Guess what guys. Winter and summer moisture has brought boom time to the Ag industry in SD the last 2 years.

Well things have already changed in the state. We got the driest fall and winter on record and drought can bring boom to bust real quick. Just ask the boys from SW Kansas on that one.

I remember hunting in waist high corn in October just a few short years back.

Doom and Boom go together don't they?

You will ever see bird numbers or any game population for that matter like they were 5 years ago east of Hwy 281. It is race at any cost right now in eastern SD to put as much acres into production as possible.
