That is unbelievably sad man. I can't imagine going through that.......

I feel so bad for your dog and you having to go through that.

Here's a good video with the zip tie method. My dog was thrashing and biting, so it won't be easy in any case. My brother - in - law was with me when my golden got caught. She was unconscious in less than a minute. We used his belt for one of the springs, then worked together to get the rest of the trap opened. It was only a few minutes, but it was too long. Get one of these traps and practice.

I have a new puppy coming home in the beginning of March. I know traps will be on my mind next fall. I just hope by that time the emotions aren't as raw so I can enjoy the season.

Don't be afraid to send a quick email to your local legislators if this concerns you. There is a bill that is currently being put together in mn to make some changes to minimize the chances of this happening in the future.

We have way too much invested in our dogs and sport to ignore it.

Rep david dill

Just was at MN Capitol yesterday. Tim and others, you should know that Rep David Dill, who chairs the house committee on Environment and Natural Resources Policy Committee said he has NO intentions of holding a hearing on HF 456, he said 3 weeks ago he had no immediate plans to hold a hearing, and yesterday at the MOHA caucus said NO HEARING PERIOD. He is using the bill introduced to put a moratorium on Wolf Hunting and Trapping as the reason why.

This means being in the position of power hes got, hes gonna throw our efforts under the bus........................again

What are our efforts?? To promote change in how bodygrip traps are used in MN so trappers can successfully harvest fur, as they do in Mi Maine WI Ontario and our dogs are safer. NO ONE is trying to stop trapping.

Contact him no matter how you feel, up, down, or sideways.

I'm not sure I understand what the wolf hunting and trapping moratorium has to do with hunting dogs being trapped. They are completely different things...or am I missing some connection?

I just want to be able to go hunting on public land around Brainerd again without fear of losing another dog. My dad lost his golden to a trap in 2002, so that's 2 in our family.

If the bill dies, next fall there will be another 20+ families that will go through what my family did.

Tim thats the rub exactly

What does one have to do with the other??? Politics. This gives Rep Dill his "reason" for refusing to hold a hearing, his intent all along was to never hold a hearing.

Please all of you who care one way or another contact rep Dill and ask for an explanation of his not holding a hearing

I did just that and emailed Rep Dill to voice my opinion, I don't expect a reply though...

I also emailed both my state legislators and both have since relied back personally and going to review the languages of the bill.

Maybe the Senate version will still gain some traction (Senate Bill SF0452). John Marty is the Chair of the Environment and Energy Committee. I don't know much about him.
