Next year

I'm not sure why everyone is getting so bent out of shape, 130-140 birds for a group isn't uncommon. 250 is just twice as many guys.
No, it's not un-heard of. I had a close friend from Russell. He hunted with a large group (50+) every year on private land. They had a LOT of CRP access. Anyway, they'd shoot upwards of 200 most openers. I couldn't believe those #'s at the time, but 2 years ago I tried hunting in a large group (30'ish), simply b/c I'd never done it. I could not believe the # of birds we saw as a result of having that many guys pushing.

It is sad, we need a cool spring and a late wheat harvest and the birds will bounce back. Without the rain dry land farming won't.

BDC. Your pretty good at math:D. Bottom line who cares. I am certainly not going to call the guy a liar. My uncle still hunts with a group I used to go with up around Norton. Three years ago seventeen of them shot 145 in 2.5 days of hunting. I have personally saw groups of 30+. Not my cup of tea anymore, but I don't doubt it. Sad thing is there probably weren't 145 birds shot in all of Norton county this opener. If we don't get moisture soon, we will really be in trouble. Some of my best fishing ponds are getting to the critical stage around my house.

It's largely ignored but I thought there was a limit on hunters in one party of 13-14 ? could be Nebraska? Course there is a party hunting limit, which must have a place here too, otherwise we would be down a hunter with each limit. I have seen 200 birds in a 1/4 mile hedgerow in Cloud County, and here or there in Jewell, Republic. But that was between 1971-1980. If you surrounded that area with 50 hunters, who knows. I dislike the army style groups, but I suspect it's the local farmers who do it most and have a picnic dinner after. I am sure Brownback, in the pheasant administration, revels in 50 man out of state hunters. I don't like to sit in a 24" pit with duck and goose hunters either. I guess I don't like anybody! But the fascination with the a fifty man drive, I would like to see! Who steers that army? Must be military men, desiring the good old days!

Private land - the year before 300 first 2 weekends.
Won't see that again for a number of years.
They only got 12 the first weekend this year. A few less people but
only 12 says it all.
The other tell sign was no predators, no rabbits and very few hawks.

Happy hunting-and pray for mild winter, rain and cooler temps.

No way of telling how many hunted with the info you posted. Was it 2 days of hunting or 2 seperate weekends? In your first post above you say 2 weekends then when you tell us to do the math you say it was 2 days.

And if you go back and look at some of my posts you will find that I am not in this game for the killing part of it either.

Am I missing something?

if there were 250-300 birds shot, that would likely mean 400+ birds flushed or put in the air......that's a lot of birds to see in Kansas, especially last year.

Guys lay off man. And we are deleting or editing quite a bunch of f bombs and swear words lately, clean her up. I have flushed 2-3 hundred birds from one cattail patch many many times. Big whoop.;) not sure but I don't think he shot them, but saw them. I counted and collected tails from one season over Bandit and ended with 167. Among friends and others hunting with her, she flushed and retrieved em all. IA,MN, and ND. So the numbers seem from earth to me. No need to pot stirgentlemenn.
