Haven't been in decades but getting ready to go next year. Just got the Sweet sixteen out of the safe after 15 years of storage. Any new gear since we used to hunt in the 90s? What the best boots with a $600 budget. Looking at South Dakota in November of 26.

2 of most anything or one of anything less than custom. Unless boot prices have gone up like groceries.
One thing that seams to have changed for folks here, is that most rely on a GPS collar systems to keep track of their dog.
A decent load of 5s and you are in business.
I have shot prairie dawgs across SD, the only place where I thought they had more pheasants than back home in Iowa, was near Gregory. This was 15 years ago at least. One morning, looking for dawg towns, I am driving down a road that is just a bit better than a good 2 track at sunrise. For a mile or 2 the roadway was full of pheasant broods. This was mid June, it was like someone was punking me and planted maybe thousands of birds on this road, it was incredible and the only time I have seen more than a few in my SD travels. It was over a decade ago, but might be worth snooping around there.

The gps on the dog has been a game changer. When hunting alone there’s no yelling or talking. I know right where the dog is. I’ll also tackle a piece of cover with the gps that I may avoid without. For example, when property I have permish for adjoins a beautiful birdy big property I don’t. All owners of bird covers have heard “was just looking for my lost dog”.

Good for you for rallying and getting back into it!
