Nail trimming??

I am on my 7th lab and never had any others need their nails trimmed. My little girl is almost 3 and I just noticed on walks she gets a scraping clicking sound now. I looked and her nails are long and have a curve, especially the outside ones. I train here a lot, she hunts a lot, my wife jogs with her so it is surprising.

Any way if your lab needs them trimmed do you do it yourself? Any tricks I heard peanut butter to distract them. I do have a dremel tool. How often do you have to do them? I do live fairly close to a Pet Smart and a Petco. Worth it to have them do it, I have no idea how she would act with me doing it. Thanks for advice.
 
Mine needs a trim all the time. I bring him to the vet and they use a Dremel to grind them down more than cutting.

Have you moved? i grew up on sand. Never even heard of nail trimming. My buddy still does live on sand and has never had to trim any.
 
I’ve done a few different dogs. Some easy some not, always funny. 2 people makes it easier. We use dog nail clippers and take little bites.
 
My 13 yr old Vizsla is walking around right now with grizzly bear claws. She has an appt at the vet coming up and I'm going to have them give her a trim. I recently bought a Ryobi Dremel and a diamond nail attachment to use on my younger dogs. I need to trim them more frequently than I have. The last time I had a local pet store do it and I realized that I could do a better job than the young woman with purple hair and piercings to match. $17 and I think she took off an 1/8th of an inch.

OMG thanks for the laugh. I use to buy my purina pro plan from Per Smart before I switched to Chewys. They did not have any of what I wanted so the pierced orange haired little girl went to the back to grab a bag. She came back with it draped over her shoulders. I offered to carry it up front, but she said no, I need to get in shape for hunting season. My jaw hit the floor while she was checking me out she told how she got an elk last year. This year her boyfriend drew an elk tag in Colorado and she was hoping she could go. I live in Montana. I said I mostly just bird hunt any more but killed a few nice bulls. She said after big game season, she and her boyfriend have a jet boat and hunt waterfowl on the Missouri River. I thought I never saw anybody like her in a duck blind. lol Good on her. Thanks again for the good laugh.
 
Nail trimming day goes over like a fart in church with the amigos. Oldest has nails as thick and tough as a 16 penny nail. Grinding is the only option. The other two can use a cutter. Try to follow up with a little grinding after cutting. Makes the nail not as sharp.
