My Old Dog

My Brittany was 10 in November; at least I think he was. He's an unpapered rescue whose foster master, an experienced Brittany man, gave him an estimated November birthday when he was a pup. He sill loves to hunt and loves life in general.

At 10, he's been through some changes. He lost an eye to an errant shot at age six. But he didn't lose a step. Dogs may get depressed but they don't feel sorry for themselves. He's slowed down and lacks the endurance of earlier years, so afield we stop and rest more. I've slowed a little myself.

He's going grey in his face but he still strikes a fine figure and I feel proud of him on our morning walks in the city. People still say he's pretty and the kids want to pet him. I still love him.

Can't think of any creature more lovable than an old dog.

I think we'd all like a picture of your ole pal!

Mine turned 9 on Dec 24th. He really hasn't slowed down to much. He is grey and has been for the last 4 or 5 years. I hunt him just as hard now as I did when he was 2. He does come out of the crate a little slower the day after. I just don't want to think about the day I don't have him anymore.

Daisy will be 10 this Summer. She grayed a lot this year, but still has good muscle and a spring in her step. The only change I've observed is that she doesn't want to get up off the couch in the mornings unless we are going somewhere. I don't blame her, we've had some really cold mornings the last few weeks. I didn't especially want to go outside either.

Simply create a photobucket account and C&P.

Here is my old Britt at 11 years & 9 months. Turns 12 next month.

Here she is 11 years earlier.

Still spunky at home, but I do not hunt her in big areas any longer. Suspect her hearing is going some ...

Well, your hearing would be going if you had a bell dinging next to your head for the past 11 years! Just joking around, that's a real warrior pic :10sign:

Bell is only used now for ruffed grouse hunting on breezy days.

Astro has eliminated the need for a bell about 95% of the time in pheasant country.

She's a great looking dog.

Great looking, happy GSP. Thanks for posting.
