My Dog and Butterflies

What do you do when your dog seems more interested in butterflies then birds? It's starting to tick me off. Went out yesterday with her, and all she seemed to want to do is chase butterflies. I believe if she did scare up a quail it would probably be because she was chasing a dang butterfly. Need some help here.

How old is she, sounds young to me. She just wants some action and I am willing to bet there are more butterflies in that field then quail. Trust your dog when she comes around a bird I am sure she will shift gears and get into it.

Well said. Most pups butterflies are an extension of birds and chasing demonstrates chasing prey.

Yeah it is fine as long as you aren't loosing birds because of it. I have seen other dogs that like to mouse when they aren't into a bunch of birds.

yeah I would let it be, at 2 the dog still has alot of pup in them and thats just what they do..lol

How much exposure to wild game birds has she actually had?

Most young dogs that I have been around tend to start ignoring the dickey birds (if you do as well) when they have had some decent exposure to wild game birds. They soon learn what there supposed to be after.

That said, my 12 year old STILL occasionally can be seen amusing himself by pointing a robin in the yard.
