I'm sure it will have more negative impacts than positive on the existing nests and later hatches up to now. We had a similar event June 13. With the peak of the pheasant hatch near June 10 and the quail June 20, you can see that the timing isn't good for either event. Get those birds to 4-5 weeks and more feathers than down and they have a better chance. The fact we're getting some long periods where they don't have the chance to dry off and temps from 60 to 75, and it's aggravated. If things level out, the conditions created by this rain could extend the nesting season and raise the condition of the habitat and hens over what it may have been without it. I'm sure we will see every type of result across the state. It won't all be homogenous.

Very well said!!!!!! By all means we will not know the effects of this until the habitat dwindles down and we get into the field.

I heard a rummor that Maynard was out at the ranch doing a rain dance recently. He still has that Midas touch.

Can't remember when S.W. Kansas or Kansas in general has been this wet! I know Eastern Kansas see's a lot of rain, but this is crazy out West, North and S.W. What is your annual rainfall? I have never seen this but maybe I have not payed too much attention!!!

I believe we generallly get between 10-20 inches of precip for the year but lately we have been the northamerican desert

5" yestereday in Reading, KS. Long ways from pheasant country but I figure a few quail hunters are monitoring precipitation on this side of the state.

Openining date released yet?

I know its app: 90 days out but am going to hunt some new brittanys this year and am planning a good train up when the weather cools down. Anyone have an idea of the opening weekend this year?

2 mi. S.E. of Oakley in Logan County reported 1.75 inch hail. 11 miles N.N.W. of Scott City reported 1.00 inch hail. Most of the hail was nickel size with a few larger stones. Heavy rain was reported below.

Still really dry at the ranch. Things are burning up. Really need a good slow soaker.

N0 central MO very wet but just on for annual rainfall. Just comes in 3-6 in. downpours. Very tough on the quail nesting. Had good reports on whistle counts early, but haven't heard much on seeing birds lately. Pheasants thankfully are much hardier birds.

Just an update boys! A little good moisture!! I will check for hail in a minute!
