moisture?

Front passing through the state this evening through the morning. I sure as hell hope we get at least an inch average... it's dryer than a popcorn fart around here!

Good rain here at the moment. Expect calving to begin any time. The girls are ready to pop and this could bring it on.

Thankful for the moisture.

Well, hunting season is over... I guess it was time for another thread about rain. I wonder if this one will get 380 posts and 14,000 views.

I pray you all get the rain you need this year.

Ha! I guess we're pretty cyclical around here. I woke up this AM to lots of thunder and plentiful rain! Not sure just how much yet.

Yeah, we're kinda predictable.:D:D I will be sure to photograph any rattlesnakes, cougars, or nasty burrs I see this year, so I am ready to contribute to the Pre-season threads.

Wednesday when I saw the forecast for rain commencing Thurday night, I got to thinking: As warm as this winter has been, it's possible fish will be feeding aggressively just before this storm front arrives. So Thursday morning I grabbed my fly rod and hit a pond I've got permission to fish.

My guess was right: In two hours I caught and released 40 bluegills, 4 crappie and 1 largemouth bass. Normally I would have kept a dozen for the fry pan, but didn't this time because I've misplaced my fish scaling board.

Of course, anywhere I go my 14-month old bird dog has to go, too. The fishing action was steady enough that it kept her puppy attention focused on what I was doing, to the point where finally she waded out into the lake right in front of me and stood there belly deep waiting for the next ones I hooked to get pulled in.

Some of the fish, after being unhooked and tossed back they got confused and swam the wrong direction, almost wiggling out onto dry land? My dog would then paw the fish back into deeper water so that it could swim away.

Photo below shows her contemplating whether to pounce on a "rooster" bluegill.

CR,

That is hilarious! I don't know how you keep her from trying to chase the fly. I suppose you're just a better dog trainer. I have one dog that won't chase my bait every cast. He too likes to "help" with the fish when I'm bringing them in:rolleyes:

Way to get out there! Now I wanna go......'

Oh gshlover, it's still rainin' here.

just checked nws, est. .75 inches here, sure looked like alot more on the drive home, bar ditches full, and running.

By 5 tonight the gauge showed 3.93 inches. Impressive. Sounds like town had over 4.3 inches. It's good for the coming year, I hope it becomes a wave of bird production!

The way the weather has been of late, I just hope it's not 150 degrees every day this summer...
