Mitchell Area Private Land

I am going to a family reunion in the Mitchell area and thought I would do some pheasant hunting, just me and my black lab, while I'm in the area.

My question is 'are the private landowners positive or negative on allowing people to hunt their private land?'

I'm not asking for names and addresses, just if anyone has had any luck getting on private land.
 
It's tough to find a private land owner that will let you hunt. But not impossible. You just have to knock on some doors. A single person might have better luck than a group. Since you are having a family reunion in Mitchell maybe someone in your family can steer you on to someone?? Good luck!
 
I will tell you the best kept secret in regards to gaining permission to hunt. "Never ask". Seriously. The farm is there life and farmers are more than willing to talk with you about THEIR life and farm. He or she knows why you are there. But the entire time you are chatting with them, they are analyzing you. Its way too easy for them to say no if you ask them up front. When they feel comfortable with you they will ask you. At some point they will say "I suppose you are looking for a place to hunt?" When they ask you there is a 90% chance you will gain access. Don't be in a hurry, you are in their world. if you get a no, ask if they own an obscure out of the way parcel that nobody usually hunts. They usually do have a piece. It comes down to less hunting and more freelancing, but it is well worth it. Good luck.

I am going there in dec for 10 days and I plan to ask farmers for access to there
Farms to hunt.I realy never asked before so I feel kind of funny doing it
Did not know how to handel that.I would also be willing to pay a small fee too

You never know about landowners, sometimes they will sometimes they won't.
I knew a guy that caught tresspassers red handed, a grandfather and his grandson. They knew they were trespassing but thought they could get away with it. First he gave the grandfather a lecture about teaching his grandson to trespass, then he told the grandson that he should try to do better than what he was being taught. Then I told them about a spot that I thought would have some birds in it. So you never know about landowners.
 
We been asking for years, we get more no than yes replies. But if every year you add one more yes after awhile you got enough private for most of the trip. We bring a gift to give them, and it helps to build a lasting impression.
