Might be a bismuth shortage.

Maybe the #4s break open more than the #2s I am using (unless you are seeing splintered #2s too). Although, I think @A5 Sweet 16 uses #4s in full choke and doesn't see a lot of splintering either. I believe that is 1 oz in his 16 gauge. Maybe ducks just have thicker bones that cause more splintering. I don't know.

Yes, I shoot Boss #4 through a full choke. I see what I'd call very little pellet fracturing. Far less than I saw with Kent bismuth or Bismuth Cartridge Co. (many years ago). The copper plating seems to help a lot. For what it's worth, I believe any fractured pellets you find in a bird fracture within the bird; not in the barrel. If a pellet fractures in the barrel, there's no way any of those fragments will fly into the bird.

I haven't any fracturing with Boss, I shoot 5 or 6's when out west. I did get fracturing with Kent bismuth.

Thanks that is exactly what I thought. It seems hard for me to believe a choke would deform the shot that much in the barrel. I get really good patterns at 40 yards.

Said like a true flusher hunter. You see, us pointer guys get so close, the birds are lucky to get 5 yards out before we let 'em have it. In the ammo drought to come, we'll be able to reload shells with dried spitballs made out of left over hoarded covid toilet paper.

Rogers has Kent upland bismuth 5s flat of 200 at a 1.40 a shell. The winchesters are a flat of 250 at a 1,50 a shell. It’s too bad we can’t all get together and do an ammo rendezvous and swap shells.
The winchesters are supposed to be good stuff I’m half tempted to buy a box at Scheels and pattern them.

Very kind of you. I didn't know you had my shipping address.
Wow, super fast shipping. Just arrived. But seems to be some kind of mistake. I don't think these purple things are going to work in my gun. They look like they are physically too small?!

I guess I can always set them up for plinking with the 22.

Just ordered 2 cases of Boss, 1 case of 20ga 3" #5's and 1 case of 28ga 3" #5's, still have over half a case of 28ga 2 3/4 #4's and a couple boxes of 20ga 3" 3/5 combo. Should be good for the next couple of seasons.

This strikes me as genius marketing to bolster sales during a traditionally slow sales quarter. This way they can bump sales with out the discount. To quote some politician from years ago "Never let a crises real or perceived go to waste"

I usually buy all my shells bulk when they go on sale since they really don't have a shelf life. Plus I am always ready for a zombie apocalypse.

I think I got enough for two seasons, no need to buy more now. It does seem like a heck of a marketing letter to sell ammo to panic buyers. The only thing I know for certain about future cost of bismuth, it will rise, and it will fall.
