Is anyone on this site familiar with, or participated in, the Midwest Upland Gundog Series? http://uplandgundogseries.com/

Dave Northamer operates MUGS and he is also the one that is hosting our NSTRA Trial on May 14-15 at the Major Avenue Hunt Club near Glencoe.

I'm headed to the Twin Cities in the morning and plan to spend part of Wednesday with Dave and do some dog training.

In visiting with Dave I don't think he is affiliated with any other Gundog Challenge or Tournament hunting. He has started his own gundog thing called MUGS. He was participating in other gundog events and didn't care for them because there was so much emphasis on time. I happen to feel much the same as Dave. I plan to participate in one of his events at some time just to see how it's run. I was hoping someone out there had done one or more of his events and could give some feedback.

Major Ave. Club...

We still have lots of snow here - about 10" with crust. Was not aware that Major Ave. was available as yet, due to the snow.

Have been a member for years and really enjoy this club - great place to train a dog and scratch hunt.

It was nice to meet George yesterday. He is a great ambassador for all of us as upland hunters/enthusiasts. Elli is a wonderful little Brit and it is obvious the enjoyment that the two of them provide for one another.

While the cover still presents some challenges at Major Avenue due to the snow, a good day was had by all and the forecasted warm temperatures should make quick work of the snow albeit a slow melt is most desired.

Quickly, MUGS is another opportunity for gundog enthusiasts to demonstrate their dogs proficiency in the company of others sharing the same ideals. The emphasis is on manners and soundness around game. While speed is a component in the scoring, it is not the most sought attribute. Balanced, foot hunting companions perform quite well in our sport. We offer competition for both Flushing and Pointing breeds. A safe, WALKING pace is strictly enforced in all Divisions both in the Open and Amateur Event. You can compete in money (Open) or non-money (Amateur) competitions or both should you choose.

I will not make this an advertisement for MUGS but say that I believe in our format. As we wrap up a most challenging season (due to weather/snow cover) next weekend, we will once again re-evaluate our initiatives and look to enhance an already proven platform. There are many opportunities (especially in our area) to get out and test, trial, compete, prove your animal - MUGS is just one of them.

I forgot to ask you yesterday. How did training go with the pup?
