Lost a hunting buddy last night

I had to say goodbye to Conan's Mighty Titan of Texas last night. I had to have Titan put down last night. He was 14yrs old. He was the son of my very first yellow lab, Conan. He could not stand anymore, his back legs had given out. For anyone out there who ever has to go through this and I hope none of you do, the vet who came over and did the euthenasia was awesome. I would recommend her to anyone. She did a paw print cast and we are having him cremated.

Titan, you will be missed. Thank you for all the pheasants you retrieved, flushed and found. For steadiness in the duck blind, retrieving ducks and geese. For not swallowing the doves you retrieved, the quail and just being my hunting buddy. I know you weren't your dad, however your an awesome lab in your own way.

Enjoy running and chasing birds with your dad, Ruby, Sheba, Annie and Flash. Love you Titan, you will forever be missed and loved.

Greg

Hunting Buddy

I kind of know how you feel. If your a bird hunter and have a dog, most of us will have to go through this. Mine was 15, a chocolate lab.

RIP Titan,Sorry

Sorry for your loss friend. We share the same pain today. I came home from work today to find my old brit (Pumpkin, a.k.a. Punk) dead:(. She too was 14yo and had an infection. The anti-biotics weren't enough to combat the infection and old age. It's certainly not what your dog was going through; that must have been tough to see Titan that way.

My wife saw me out there with her and said, "Always right before hunting season isn't it?". My best memories of her are fresh from last season, which was probably her best season ever.

Next the neighbor came out and offered to bury her out back, while I went to run my other 2 dogs....there are still some good ppl in this world I guess, but it's the dogs I seem to miss the most.

It's a grim reminder of how short our time is with them and it came again right before bird season. My only option is to make the most of it by hunting every chance I get this season, with my boys, my other 2 dogs, and the memories I have of the 3 I've put in the ground.

No thread-jacking going on here. Seemed a good time and place to get this out. Here's to you in your quest to make new memories:cheers:

I almost forgot. Here's a pic of my ole' girl, with her best friend and sister behind her.

Beautiful dog KS Brit,very sorry

So sorry to hear, and sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, I've been there, losing a good friend. Never forget, but time will heal.

When I lose a dog,I put his tag and a vial of his ashes on my whistle lanyard.then he's always with me in the field.

sorry to hear guys, hang in there. Good looking Pooches! Ive felt your pain, more than once. I know it sucks.

Greg and KS Brit I am sorry to hear of the loss to both you and your families. Losing a dog is an extremely tough thing especially ones we devote so much time to. You are both in my thoughts tonight. RIP Titan and Pumpkin

Chris

Very sorry to hear of your loss. It's a tough thing to let go, but rest assured you did the right thing. He has been called home to a better place.

Cherish the memories.

Greg, sorry to hear the news! Always a tough decision that we have to make!

KB, sorry to hear of your loss! I think both dogs had the best of hunting homes!!

Thanks for sharing and I am also sorry for your loss.:(

It never gets any easier, no matter if he/she was your first hunting dog or last. They become such an integral part of your family. Thank you to everyone, take care god bless and enjoy your own hunting partners this season.

I do have three other labs, however Titan was the old man, the patriarch if you will of the pack.

My sincere condolences. I had to say goodbye to my 9-pound, 12-year-old Jack Russell on Sunday; her magnificent heart failed suddenly. It devastated me even more than my bird dogs have. Maybe that's because she was so small, always by my side/in my lap, or because she met me faithfully at the door every day for 12 years, showered me with puppy kisses, made the worst day seem better, and was with me through the dark & lonely empty-nest years. I had to take the week off . . . tears & work just aren’t a good combination. Hank (my Bourbonnais pup) is still searching for “The Boss.” I’ll miss her. Fortunately, I shot a video not an hour & a half before as I played with the dogs in the yard . . . no clue that anything was wrong . . . she was 100% Sadie. John (my Son) made it over to the Vet’s before she passed; I bought her for him, but she eventually became mine. Dogs are such wonderful creatures. Put my favorite photo of her along with a tribute I wrote "on the wall" yesterday with those of dogs gone by. Paw print should be here in a week or so. God Bless.

Very humane of you, yet difficult, to end your dog's pain.

I looked into Titan's eyes on that picture and saw his honesty , his love , his wisdom and his heart! The eyes will tell you much about a dog. He shows that he was slowing down some but doing his best as always. I know you will miss him as I will miss mine and do miss those who are not with me now. This forum is chock full of dog lovers and folks who just know and walk the path with you when each of us has a loss, it hurts the others and reminds us all that "time" is short and to make the most of it. God bless all of you for enjoying one of His best gifts to us as men. I pity the man who never allows himself to love a dog!
