Looking for a puppy

Hi, I am new to the forum. The reason I joined is because my wife and I had to put down our female black lab one week ago. She was 12 1/2. I am looking for a new puppy - black or chocolate female - and was hoping some people on the forum could give me the names of some breeders in Colorado and the surrounding area that would have puppies that would be good pheasant hunters. I do not hunt waterfowl so I am just looking for a good lab that would pheasant hunt. I can train it myself. I have looked at all the websites of breeders and need some first hand information.

If you have a good pheasant hunting black/chocolate lab, please let me know where you got it and some information about your dog.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the lost of your lab! I have had labs for years also and everyone goes through the loss of their friend and hunting buddy no matter what breed.
KB kennels in Pierce(NE of Ft. collins) has some good lab dogs, both pointing and flushers. In particular he has a flushing dog who will have black pups soon.
Good luck!

I have hunted over and been around plenty of Bear Point Kennel dogs for the last half dozen years or so. They have all been great to be around, and more often then not in the upland fields have blown my mind as far as what pointing labs can do.

Just hunted with a guy this past weekend who is a local in Yuma County. He has a yellow lab from Gun Dogs R Us in Peyton. The dog had a fantastic nose and really got on the scent quick. You could tell when he was about to flush. Really good working range. I was impressed. He said he would buy another dog from them. I guess its an option.

Posted in your intro!!! Sorry to hear about your loss!! Check with Gary Rupple for sure! He is no nonsense!!

Remember spend your money on the right dog. You'll have to live/hunt with the dog for a long time.

Best Labs around are Bear Point kennel. I've trained them and they are easy to work with and smart.

He is talkin of my dog Tucker, He came from S.D., Sire from top dog kennel and bred to a bitch from the Kellog line by a guide up there and was trained by Rick Fitzpatrick of Gun dogs r us ....just to keep things straight

KB Kennels has graciously donated a lab puppy to our banquet on March 2. I've heard great things about their dogs; you could always come to the banquet and support the cause. The pups aren't born yet, so we don't know what we are getting, but the female could have all three colors. I'll keep you posted.

P.S. its the Northern Colorado Pheasants Forever banquet in Loveland.

I finally might get to meet some of you that post on here!! LOL
Cant wait

I have a lab from KB Kennels (Kevin Eskam).
The dog has a very strong desire to hunt, a good nose, is biddable and was very easy to train.
He is a sturdy dog, has good confirmation and so far has been of excellent health.
If you are looking for a good hunting dog, consider getting a pup from Kevin.

Another Bearpoint Vote

For what its worth my vote would go to Bearpoint. Not only are their dogs fantastic in the field and the home but they stand behind there pups. From getting them started on birds at their puppy seminars to helping with hunt test/ field trial training the support is second to none. Have not hunted with Kevin's dogs but have seen them run at hunt tests and they are good all around dogs as well. The only bad part is I am pretty sure the only way to get one of their pups is to win it at the Pikes Peak Pheasants Forever banquet as they are 65 people deep on their waiting list. I have a 2 1/2 year old black lab out of their kennel and he continues to amaze me. He also has more personality and love for life than any dog I've had and I've had some good ones. Amazing drive that can be turned on and off. Perfect Companion!!!

Dale and Brenda are awesome people and you wont go wrong with a pup from them, They are real good friends of mine.

Sorry about your loss. It's the toughest thing about having pet companions.

You can't go wrong with Kevin's (keskam) KB Kennel or Dale's Bearpoint Kennel. Bearpoint puts out more pups per year so the waiting list is shorter. Dale is the president of the Col. Springs Pheasants Forever chapter and I'm pretty sure he is auctioning off one of his pups at their banquet that's coming up soon.

Keskam,
I got an invite to a private lodge this weekend and the mid~day talk was dogs. Your name came up and all they had to say about you and your kennel was postive.... We will have to meet some day. You sound like a good guy with great dogs.
