Looking for a new hunting vehicle

Thinking of the 2026 Suburban High Country. Should I stick with the 6.2L V8 engine? I want to go this route because it has the 18" screen with built in google, so that I can get all the waypoints downloaded for hunting spots. Plus 5G wi-fi, bluethooth, and sirius XM. And I think it'll have enough power to tow my ski boat and my dog trailer + side by side so that I don't actually have to walk anywhere. Heated seats, heated steering wheel, cameras for backup, frontup, and every which way. Wireless apple car play and every other Gucci feature you could want. Going full leather on the seats of course. I'll take it straight out to Hilger Montana to hunt my german speaking dogs on prairie birds. How was the hatch this year?

I'm really looking at a suburban as well, it won't be new but the thought of taking the back seat out for my box and having everything enclosed and the room is looking more and more appealing all the time. I looked hard into a bed topper last year but you're stuck climbing over the box to get anything in the front of the bed. Some have side windows but the height of these new trucks makes it hard to reach everything. Suburban just might be the ticket

I own a 2023 Sierra 1500 with the 6.2L engine. It was one under recall. I took it in for testing and ended up with the oil change. I guess I have been one of the fortunate ones with no oil use/leaks or other issues. It does seem to be a little quieter at startup with the 0W-40 oil. I have a fiberglass shell on it and it does all I need and then some. I love the engine for the power and capability. I have the SLT package with leather and other goodies. It makes for a great ride when off to SD or Kansas, etc. It also has plenty of room for a Gunner Intermediate kennel in the cab when necessary.

I would pass on the 6.2L GM engines. I think they are still under recall and not sure that changing the viscosity of the oil is a long time fix that is acceptable. My friend, who has the 6.2L in her 1/2 ton pickup that has never pulled anything, has to add a quart of oil about every 1300 miles. That isn't considered excessive by GM in a two year old truck with 24,000 miles!

Do they put the baby Duramax diesel in that vehicle? Everyone that I know with that engine is happy with them.

The truck I originally ordered had that engine, but I couldn't get it due to the strike, thus ended up with the 6.2L. I have been super lucky with it so far. I really like how it runs and hope I am just one of the guys that everyone did their job correctly when building this bad boy! I get about 15mpg going back and forth to work and 20-21mpg on the highway. Like you, I ma not 100% sure just doing an oil change is the fix, but I do like knowing it has the extended warranty now as some level of protection against major engine failure.

My 2018 5.0 f150 burns a quart per 1000 miles, always has since it rolled off the lot. Ford told me it was in spec and the engine wasn't part of the recall. Good thing it holds 9 quarts. I have an oil level meter not a oil life meter! Valve train has always been loud, they told me to run premium. WTF. 163000 miles now with no repairs
Wife has a 6.2 in her 2018 Yukon that is awesome. 23-24 MPH on the interstate. Rest of the vehicle is piss poor quality

My 2014 F-150 burned a quart in 3000 miles when I switched from 5w20 dinosaur to 5w20 synthetic. The last oil change I switched to 5w30 synthetic and it has used maybe a 1/2 quart in the 5700 miles I have on this oil change. I’m changing at 6000 so didn’t add any.

My 2012 F150 had the 5.0L and I too ran 5W-30 vs the 5W-20. I didn't use hardly any oil. I really liked that truck, but someone decided it was a good idea to run a red light, run into a truck, thus pushed that truck into me, and my truck was totaled out.

Same with my 2019 F150 5.0. Bought it with 13K miles, burns a quart every 1000 miles. 93K on it now, no engine issues yet. 10R80 transmission has shifted hard ever since I bought it as well. Known issue there.

I use a 2022 4Runner - I don't have dogs, but everything else is okay. I am getting ready to turn over 150,000 miles. Gets around 19-19.5 on the highway and lots less in city crap.
