knocking on doors

Well with all the debate on here about leasing and knocking on doors and so on I thought I would post my success for the last day and a half I spent a little time and went knocking on doors and I came up with close to 1200 acres of prime private hunting ground and the farmers I talked to were happy as a lark to let me hunt they were glad I stopped and asked and none of them are ever going to lease ground so I guess what I am trying to say is that all it takes is a little time out of our busy lives to go door to door and we have the best land around and it only costs 20.00 in gas rather than 50,000 to lease a bunch of land and wether iI make it to half the ground once or a hundred times I still dont have to pay out the nose for my passion and its all within a 20 mile radius of my house

Well said Joe!!!!! We do the same thing!!! Just be yourself and treat them with respect!!!!

thats right all they are asking for is some respect and one landowner asked if I would put up no hunting without written permission sighns and I said yes and he ok one other thing i have you and two other peaple who ever ask so if you find anyone else there please let me know and take their tags I said yes to that if I can help them out in anyway so that my hunting wont be hindered in the future I am more than willing to do so

GCB-

Hey, up in your country, the farmers probably haven't seen a human for weeks and were lonely. :):) You know it is not like urban sprawl has gotten to them yet in Gove County.:D:D:D

Good deal, BTW.

Maynard, Dodge the Metropolis!!!!!! LOL!! You are funny as he!! We have to meet up!!! Maybe I'll head out for that January hunt!!!! You guy's crack me up!!!

I was coming to see you today, but got half way and got tired and just a little scared and had to get back to home base. Actually, I was up in the Finney/Lane County area on business. It was dry there as it is at the ranch. A lot of grasshoppers there to. My hired hand said he saw a young hatch of quail chasing grasshoppers at the ranch, but it was a little like at of those kilazillion selection Chinese buffets and so many choices you don't know which one to attack first. He said they were funny to watch.

Hey Grove,

You are right on, A little time and gas, and a little respect can get you, to the mother land. This works if your willing to take the time. Alot of farmers in ne, co, wy, and mt. They just want now, who and what is going on, on the land. If you run into a NO, be respectful, say thank you and depart. You would be surprised how often that they change there minds. You had better treat their land with the up most rescept ( means you haul it in you pack it out. that includes shell hulls.) or you will not get a secound change.:)

Thats all us farmers want be respectful and let us know when and what time and you'll get a yes 90% of the time. I love to hunt but if i'm working or don't have the time have at it.
Time for a story I was hauling s#%@ one day during deer season and when I came over the hill in the bottom laid a big 10 point buck never moved. got back to the yard jumped in the truck and found two deer hunters asked them if they wanted to try for it. They didn't get it but they sure were happy with me couldn't believe someone would do that.
Plus remember when asking mention the kids if you are trying to teach them to hunt all farmers love that. I can never turn down people that hunt with the kids:)

Sir,
That is really good of you. I have a small farm here in Ohio and feel the same way.

alot of people knock on my parent's door asking to hunt.. usually if we have hunters lined up, its not gonna happen.. however if they are still around next weekend.. they're welcome to then...

there are times when we hear shots go off, we hop in our trucks and find out where they are shooting and where they are on foot... numerous times i find them violating laws and didnt get permission...

Time for another story ducks were landing on the back end of farm cool right. Not when you hear shoots. Drove out back and confronted them they told me I was trepassing and got smart about it. I told them my dad owned it. They got dum look on face. I said a few cuse words told them when I got to house I was calling the game warden (before cell phones) . If you can make it to car before he gets here go for it. I never seen to fat a$$es run so fast:D car was roughly mile away game warden 2 miles. I guess they made it but I hope they learned something.

Looks like my 2 year daughter better start getting into shape. She has a lot of walking to do this fall.

we have our fair share of non askers and the land owners usually leave it up to the ones of us that do have permission to take care of it and they stand behind us 100% maynard its so dry a cricket farted south of here and it looked like a dust storm we need some moisture definately need to catch up this winter its not that far to dodge maybe we could meet outside of town not to thrilled about alot of trafic HA HA

Just look for the end of the world, we are the last place before you get there.

So nice to know that there are still A LOT of good people left in this world, including many farmers & hunters...If only the IDIOTS didn't get such press & leave behind such a bad taste for the rest of us to have to overcome!

I have had really good luck knocking on doors & made a lot of friends that way over the years! I respect whatever I am told (whether YES or NO), & am extremely grateful for the privileges I have sometimes been granted - on average about 25-50% of the time (that's permission granted on about one out of every two to four times asked - not too shabby for a non-local complete stranger), EXCEPT in the money-grubber areas that have been completely hijacked by high-$$$$ guides & leases (where the ratio is much nearer ZERO)...IF I had any land, I too would at least once in awhile grant permission to the right kind of safe & respectful hunter (beyond family & friends), AFTER having been given a fair chance to size them up!

A hearty goodnight to all the "ends of the world"!!! :p

I rememeber my uncle had let me hunt his land for the first time for Deer season... after a sunrise.. i didnt see anything for a few hours so we decided to move and when we did.. my uncle saw some people near his OLD farmhouse that had tons of trees surrounded the place...

this guy was parked on the side of the rd right in front of my uncle's old barn.. said what are you doing?

he goes.. my buddy's in there trying to flush out a big buck!!! my uncle decided to play dumb... OH!! really? big? how many of you guys flushing out?

he said 3! be quiet!! we dont wanna make the buck go the wrong way...

then my uncle said... well i suppose the farmer that owns that land gave you permission to go on his place huh?

he said... umm i dunno if we got permission.. one of the guys said lets go in and get it...

uncle said.. well that farmer is me... and i own that.. you guys shoot that buck that comes out of my place that still has cows... for every cow you hit, 5,000 is what i want and if you do get the buck and my cows unharmed... i want 10,000 for the buck..

he put his gun down and said huh? oh shit....

then he started yelling.. STOP SHOOTING OWNER'S HERE!!!

everyone scrambled.... uncle laughed but was happy no one got the buck or hurt his cows....

2 hours later we saw the buck run out of his place and it was a nice onee but i had already gotten my buck for my tag...
