Ok why do I hear a sad trombone in my head every time you comment on here?
It was hotter than 100. Much hotter. Hottest summer since 1984.I don't post very often and I've been hunting KS since 1993. This is the first year I've talked to the farmers that let me hunt on their land. They all say one discouraging word---DRY. They haven't had rain in quite a while and the 100 degree temps in the summer sure didn't help. A lot of the milo will be baled because it was bad and they'll need feed. It does look grim this year, but I'll still head out like a dummy.
In fact you are correct, much silage throughout the state made our calves and cows happy the last month in far SEK but not the pocketbook however it’s not that much difference when it’s 95 or 110, it’s hot regardless, yeah I get it less water day by day adds up. Here’s to you old westksbowhunter, u may know something about this areaIt was hotter than 100. Much hotter. Hottest summer since 1984.
It got up to 110 more than once. Over 100 most every day all summer. It was hotter than 100. Much hotter. Hottest summer since 1984.
I’ve run into 3 coveys out hunting this year and they’ve all been small. Only about a half a dozenquail seem to tolerate extreme temps much better than pheasants, still not good.
Well that makes it seem a little better I guess....Here's an article that compares 2022 to past years. I think it's accurate, at least in my part of the state. 2011 and 12 were definitely worse than this year. On a positive note, started cutting milo Sunday and have seen quite a few quail. There are apparently still birds in Kansas.
That’s a good breakdown of the past thanks for sharing, what feels different for me this year is how early the heat came on. May this year was extremely hot, made it feel like a endless summer.Well that makes it seem a little better I guess....
